My parents were married for 33 years.
I never once heard the word “DIVORCE” in our house.
Not during fights, money stress, hard seasons.
Never.
Before my wedding, my father pulled me aside and said a few things
that still live in my head to this day:
Please marry well if you're going to marry. Because divorce is expensive. Regret is exhausting. And wasted years are irreplaceable. Here are 8 non-negotiables before you say I do.
Don't marry for potential. Don't marry because everyone else is doing it. Don't marry because you've been together for years and feel like it's the next step. Don't marry because you're afraid of being alone or starting over or losing time invested. Marry because this person, exactly as they are right now, is someone you want to build a life with.
Because divorce isn't just expensive financially, it costs you emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. It drains you in ways money can't measure. And regret? Regret is waking up years later realizing you ignored every red flag, every gut feeling, every warning sign because you were too invested to walk away. That regret follows you into every relationship after.
And wasted years? You don't get those back. You don't get back the version of yourself that existed before you were broken down by the wrong person. You don't get back the opportunities you missed because you were busy trying to fix something that was never meant to work.
So here's what you need before you say "I do":
1. Shared values, not just shared interests. You can love the same music and still want completely different lives. Make sure you align on what actually matters — faith, family, money, children, life priorities.
2. Consistent character, not just good behaviour. Anyone can act right when things are easy. Watch how they handle stress, conflict, and disappointment. That's who you're actually marrying.
3. Emotional maturity, not just emotional availability. They need to communicate, take accountability, regulate their emotions, and work through conflict without shutting down or exploding.
4. Financial responsibility, not just financial potential. How they handle money now is how they'll handle it married. If they're reckless, entitled, or financially irresponsible now, a wedding won't fix that.
5. Respect, not just love. Love without respect is toxic. If they dismiss your feelings, belittle your opinions, or disrespect you in small ways now, marriage will magnify that.
6. Action, not just words. Don't marry promises. Marry proof. Marry someone whose actions consistently match what they say. Words are easy. Follow-through is everything.
7. Healthy conflict resolution, not avoidance or explosiveness. You will disagree. You will have hard conversations. Make sure you're marrying someone who can handle conflict without running, stonewalling, or making you the villain for bringing up problems.
8. They choose you consistently, not conditionally. You shouldn't have to earn their love, effort, or presence. They should choose you on good days and bad days. When you're easy and when you're difficult. Consistently. Without question.
If these aren't in place, don't walk down that aisle. Don't ignore what you see, hoping marriage will change it. Don't settle because you're tired of being single or afraid you won't find better.
Because divorce is expensive. Regret is exhausting. And wasted years are irreplaceable.
Marry well. Or don't marry at all. Your future self will thank you.
Rules every young man should live by.
1. Invest in yourself; invest in knowledge, learn a skill, have something upstairs.
2. Be shameless, that’s how you make money.
3. Be highly selective with the women you deal with.
4. Don’t simp.
5. Think long term; whatever you’re doing, even while making money, think long term. Don’t be so lost in wanting to enjoy today, ephemeral pleasures, that you make no plans for tomorrow, the future.
6. Have a small circle of friends with growth mindset who are goal oriented just like you and grow together.
7. Never feel entitled to a brother’s pocket. KiII entitlement completely, and work for yours.
8. Don’t date if you’re broke, go get your life in order first, that’s priority.
9. Be that friend you want to have to your friends; these days, people want what they can’t give. As much as you need good friends who watch out for you, be a good friend too.
10. Never stop chasing for more: it’s okay to be contented, but don’t settle for crumbs, do not get too comfortable at any point. The universe is filled with a lot of everything good. There’s truly abundance and countless untouched blessings, don’t stop!
11. Once life starts getting favorable, save some money, invest/reinvest some, take care of yourself, take care of family too.
8 Rules of Masculinity.
If you want to transform from a boy to a man you should absolutely master these rules:;:;
1. Sovereignty Over Your Inner State.
Love is not money, gifts, or rescue before commitment. Love does not start with paying bills, fixing lives, or carrying responsibilities that are not yours yet.
When a man provides before commitment, he confuses duty with affection. He trains a woman to relate with his wallet, not his values.
When pressure comes, respect disappears.
Never become a father figure to a woman you didn’t marry unless you’re not in any romantic relationship with the woman.
A father figure gives security, structure, and sacrifice. Those roles belong in marriage, not in dating.
Dating is for knowing each other. Marriage is for building together. Once you mix the two, you lose the balance.
You give too much too early, and you attract the wrong kind of attachment.
Commitment must come before provision. Anything else is self-harm dressed as love.
🤷♂️
Bro, how did you mess up with a woman who didn't want anything from you but you?
She wasn't asking for money.
She wasn't demanding expensive gifts.
She wasn't requiring luxury trips.
She wasn't measuring your worth by your wallet.
All she wanted was your time, attention, and loyalty.
And you couldn't even give her that.
She didn't need you to be perfect.
She didn't need you to have it all figured out.
She didn't need you to be rich or famous.
She just needed you to be real with her.
And you fumbled.
She wanted consistency, and you gave her confusion.
She wanted honesty, and you gave her lies.
She wanted loyalty, and you gave her betrayal.
She wanted effort, and you gave her excuses.
Do you know how rare that is?
A woman who loves you for who you are, not what you have?
A woman who's down to build with you from the ground up?
A woman who doesn't care about your bank account?
A woman who just wants you to show up and be present?
That's the easiest relationship to maintain.
No pressure to be something you're not.
No stress about keeping up appearances.
No anxiety about providing material things.
Just genuine love, simple requirements.
And you still messed it up.
You got bored because it was too easy.
You took her for granted because she wasn't demanding.
You thought you could do whatever you wanted because she was loyal.
You assumed she'd always be there no matter how you treated her.
She asked for the bare minimum:
Communication - you went ghost.
Time - you made excuses.
Honesty - you lied.
Respect - you disrespected her.
Loyalty - you entertained other women.
She wasn't even asking you to move mountains.
Just answer the phone when she calls.
Just make time for her in your schedule.
Just tell her the truth.
Just treat her with respect.
Just be faithful.
That's it.
But somehow, that was too much for you.
You chose the streets over someone who chose you.
You chose games over someone who was real with you.
You chose temporary excitement over permanent peace.
You chose everything and everyone except the one who actually mattered.
Now she's gone.
And you're realizing what you lost.
Now you see her value.
Now you understand what you had.
Now you want to fix what you broke.
But it's too late.
She gave you chance after chance.
She forgave you time after time.
She stayed when she should have left.
She loved you through your worst.
And you still didn't get it right.
Some other man is going to get the upgraded version of her.
The version that learned from loving you.
The version that's healed and stronger.
The version that knows exactly what she won't tolerate.
The version that requires what you refused to give.
And he'll do everything you didn't do.
He'll appreciate what you took for granted.
He'll value what you treated like nothing.
He'll protect what you damaged.
He'll love her the way you should have.
And you'll be sitting there wondering what happened.
How you lost the easiest thing you ever had.
How you ruined the best relationship you could've asked for.
How you let go of someone who wanted nothing but your love.
That's on you, bro.
You had a woman who didn't want your money, your status, or your possessions.
She just wanted you.
The real you.
And you couldn't even give her that.
Don't mess up the next one.
If you're lucky enough to find another woman like that, treat her right.
Because women like that don't stay available for long.
I have a very important advice to give to young single men.
Some of you in this generation are very lucky to meet young girls who do not mind to be in a relationship with you, despite you not being financially okay.
Please do not use your insecurities to chase the girls away.
Stop comparing yourselves with your male friends that are better than you financially, & are in a relationship.
Do not tell any young girl that is interested in being with you, that you're not in the right place (financially) to be in a relationship with her.
Let her be the one to say that, or take a walk, if she is not okay being in a relationship with you, because you're broke.
As long as you're not lazy, you're chasing your goals, & you know that your future is going to be okay, please keep giving her hope.
Always remember, women have the gift of foresight.
When a woman decides to be with you, despite being broke, she's not saying that she is happy with you being broke.
She's saying that she's happy with where she sees that you're headed.
She wants to invest in you, sacrifice for you, and build with you.
As long as you do not make her feel "ugly", non attractive, or you're comparing her with other girls that are obviously looking better than she is, she'll be happy with being with you.
If you're arrogant, too judgemental and making her feel low, she'll start to consider better options, to prove to you that she's capable of being like those girls, and this will make her cheat on you.
Do not assume that because you're not giving her money, then another man is giving her money, until she proves you otherwise.
As long as she's living within her verifiable means, please appreciate her and work hard to give her the life that she has dreamt for both of you.
This was what I did.
I was able to sustain my relationship for 9 years because I didn't feel insecure, and I didn't push my lovely wife away.
2 years before I married her, suitors were coming. But I had already secured a good job, and she gave none of them a listening ear.
Her sacrifices and patience paid off.
My little wisdom and hardwork and dedication paid off too.
And we became husband and wife.
As long as you're focused, and as long as you have a solid girlfriend behind you, you'll come out of that stage of uncertainty, & both of you will look back to your days of humble beginnings.
Please stop feeling insecure.
Stop thinking that you do not deserve to be in a relationship because you're broke.
You do.
You have a dick.
You have a brain.
You're legit.
You're hardworking.
It's just a matter of time.
End.
