Islamabad: Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the history of Pakistan’s independence could not be separated from the sacrifices of the Ulama who resisted British colonial rule. He maintained that generations of religious scholars faced imprisonment, executions and persecution rather than abandon the freedom struggle.
“Freedom did not arrive in 1947 without a history of sacrifice,” he said, stressing that the contribution of the Ulama must be acknowledged in any honest account of the country’s history.
