A recent Twitter campaign has been spreading deliberate misinformation, falsely claiming that an “Amhara genocide” is actively taking place in Ethiopia. This narrative, which is completely false, has been weaponized to mislead the international community. As part of this ongoing campaign, they have now taken General Yilma Merdasa’s recent interview out of context to “spice up” their false allegations, adding fuel to an already dangerous and misleading narrative.

In his interview, General Yilma, Head of the ENDF Airforce and Board Chairman of Ethiopian Airlines, made it clear that Ethiopia’s drone technology is being used solely against armed forces responsible for committing atrocities such as rape, theft, and attacks on civilians in the Amhara region. The ENDF is targeting hostile groups that have allied with external forces to overthrow the democratically elected government and destabilize Ethiopia. The precision of modern drone technology ensures that these strikes are carefully aimed at enemy combatants, not civilians.

One of the groups responsible for these atrocities is Fano, which many behind the Twitter campaign are actively supporting. Fano has engaged in heinous acts, including raping, murdering, and terrorizing its own people for political gain. Their tactics include killing civilians, taking photos and videos, and using them as part of a false propaganda campaign designed to deceive the international community into believing that government soldiers are responsible for the crimes.

Moreover, Fano and its supporters have been known to use AI generated images and videos and then crying crocodile tears to manipulate perceptions. All of this is done with the intention of overthrowing the government and gaining power, all while being easy puppets for Ethiopia’s enemies.

It is crucial to recognize that no government would sit idly by while rabble groups work with external forces to overthrow it and destabilize the country. Ethiopia, like any sovereign nation, has the right and responsibility to defend itself and its people. There is clear evidence that groups like Fano are working closely with external actors to achieve their destructive goals. The ENDF, as the national defense force, has the mandate to protect Ethiopia’s citizens and ensure the nation’s stability.

The international community must not be misled by this false narrative of an “Amhara genocide” or by the deliberate misinterpretation of General Yilma’s interview. These claims are part of a broader effort to undermine Ethiopia’s sovereignty and destabilize the country. Ethiopia’s fight is against those who seek to tear it apart, not against its own people. The focus must remain on the facts: Ethiopia is protecting its citizens, its government, and its future from forces bent on causing chaos.
