The threat by the Houthis to international shipping in the Red Sea persists.

Operation @EUNAVFORASPIDES is protecting lives, trade and stability. But ships cannot secure sea lanes without reliable partners on shore, like Djibouti.

The Status of Forces Agreement we have just signed marks a major step forward in relations between the European Union and Djibouti.

This agreement will ensure the EU continues to play an important role in helping to secure key maritime routes in the Red Sea.

EU naval operations @EUNAVFORASPIDES and @EUNAVFOR Atalanta are indispensable to safeguarding maritime security in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean.

It was impressive to see the professionalism and commitment of the crews on the Italian and Spanish navy vessels firsthand. Their work helps keep some of the world's most vital shipping lanes open.

Aspides has already protected more than 670 merchant vessels against the threat of Houthi attacks, while Atalanta is playing a pivotal role in combatting piracy and deterring arms trafficking off the Somali coast.

Ethiopia is a valued partner for the European Union and one of Africa’s most influential countries.

It was good to meet with Ethiopia’s Prime Minister @AbiyAhmedAli and Foreign Minister @GHessebon in Addis Ababa today.

We discussed the region's most pressing security challenges, including the devastating war in Sudan, Al-Shabaab's terrorist threat in Somalia, Iran's attacks on its neighbours. We also talked about Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and its repercussions beyond Europe.
