This is the era when Saul was hunting down David. In this verse, he even had to flee his house through the window in the morning, yet he trusted the Lord enough that he was not alone. He got up in the morning singing with joy, praise and thanksgiving for God's blessings
and faithfulness.

We all have troubles that we face in the world today, and we all need a defender and a place of refuge against the storms of life that are outside of our control. Whom do we turn to?

Who, what, where and when do you worship? All of us are made to worship someone or something.

We learn from this verse that, despite being surrounded by enemies, King David's immediate response is to worship God in praise and song.

Despite our circumstances, we must put God first in our minds and hearts at the start of every morning because every day is a battle, and we need God through each fight we face.

Some of us may get very little sleep and battle even to wake up every morning. So putting God first may seem difficult amongst the array of ‘attention seekers’ in today's world calling out to us from our many stimuli (like the cell phone you are now reading on).

Make time every day (without the phone) to set aside even a few minutes to journal, read God's word, pray and worship him, then watch what he will do in your life as you draw nearer to him.

We surely live in times of trouble, with tumultuous events happening around us all the time (it is really the last days). God allows us to face difficulties and tribulation for us to see our weakness and be humbled, for he loves to ‘make weak things become strong’.

Let’s bask in his glory and immense power, for he is surely more able to do for us that which we cannot do for ourselves. ‘As for my family and me, I will choose to worship God in song and praise, for he is good and is our refuge and defence in the day of trouble.

God will always use your pain and setbacks for your own good (Romans 8:28) and to lift you higher so his glory can be seen by others through you!

“I will trust and not be afraid” for God is with me. Especially in our global times of uncertainty, trouble, weakness, opposition, war, natural disasters, and
ever-changing climate.

When all seems lost, that is when God can show his power and ability because even and especially “when we are weak he is strong!”

Not only was the Prophet Isaiah here telling the Jews that they needed to trust in God, but he was also foretelling the arrival of the Lord Jesus Christ as the one who became our salvation.

When we have total trust in God, we have nothing to fear. He is our strength, and the Lord is our salvation. Let us sing this song of praise today as we offer ourselves in prayer, fasting and supplication to better understand God’s will.

Be honest now and try to remember a time that you’ve taken pleasure and been joyful in times of suffering, insult and hardship? How could you possibly see at that moment, when you were weak, that God would make you strong?

God looks for the weak and humble to let his light shine through them so he may be fully seen and glorified; you know all the Bible stories of people like this: Moses, Joseph, etc. The previous verse sums it all up as ‘for my strength is made perfect in weakness’.

Paul says it again in Romans 5:3-5, where the Greek word for sufferings used is ‘thlipsesin’, which comes from ‘thlibo’, which translates to ‘pressure’. God is our father, and like any father, he has endless love for us. He also has enough grace to give us his only Son to die for our sins.

He doesn't need us to do more than accept this "blessing", which is the greatest of all blessings that mankind can ever wish to have, as it gives us eternal life and a way back to our Father in Heaven.

That said, we still have a mortal life to live, which is full of difficulty, opposition, suffering, hunger, pain, hopelessness and the list goes on and on. These things don't seem like any blessing at the time they happen to us.

However, when we look back deeply into them and see beyond them to the end of this life and into eternity, they make total sense in that they give us patience, learning and wisdom that we could not have otherwise obtained without going through this earthly realm.

If Jesus, the Son of God and being one with him, had to come down and suffer in the flesh and experience in one excruciating moment all our collective sin, then surely we can't expect to have to put up with some short-lived pains in this life.

Paul summed it up nicely when he said "glory in tribulations" and "give thanks in all things" for they work to the good of those who love God.

I was very proud of my wife, at a Women’s conference, who was asked how we react as a family to those who insult us in the public media. She answered that after praying for them, she forgives and then thanks them because what they do makes us stronger.
