The Indian Army urgently needs lessons in Information Warfare. And the lessons must begin with its own social media handles.
ARTRAC publishes details of scientists conducting a cognitive warfare lecture, while the comment section resembles an attendance register. One observer claims to have identified 37 Army-linked accounts from the interactions alone.
Why this obsession with reels, likes, followers and manufactured traction?
Too many official handles have become personal PR galleries for senior officers. IAS and IPS officers indulge in similar theatrics, but the Army carries far greater OPSEC responsibilities.
The US Army has tightened control over official accounts and mandates OPSEC reviews. Meanwhile, we seem obsessed with photographs and publicity.
An Army social media handle is not a senior officer's personal PR agency.
When publicity starts outweighing information security, the institution has fundamentally misunderstood information warfare.
An adversary doesn't always need a spy when we voluntarily leave breadcrumbs in public.
