It is almost like we are in a simulation which is driving us towards the event horizon. Billion of dollars at stake, hyperscalers competing against each other to reach their first. Private companies rushing to deploy to achieve maximum efficiency bcz if they don't they lose.
Sometimes Claude can feel really human. It was concerned on sending texts overnight to the investment team and automatically switched on some silent mode out of concern to send these texts (which were basically YT interview summaries) overnight..
I think OpenAI has changed even in the last few months (hell, even in the last weekend). People across the org are starting to feel viscerally the magnitude of capabilities.
We are creating entities that has never been seen before. This can have amazing benefits, but there are also many ways it can end up very badly.
Voluntary slowdowns are great, but it's hard to rely on all actors to do them as necessary
We urgently need shared safety bars and transparency into them being met, or we're just waiting on other incidents – and it's just a matter of who causes them first
This is going to be an industry-wide issue
@polynoamial@OpenAI I'm kinda surprised AI company employees use AI about as much SemiAnalysis employees now, but earlier in the year they used significantly less.
IG y'all didn't have Claude Code then, but now ur models are better.
“Our species is the only creative species, and it has only one creative instrument, the individual mind and spirit of a man. Nothing was ever created by two men. There are no good collaborations, whether in music, in art, in poetry, in mathematics, in philosophy.
Once the miracle of creation has taken place, the group can build and extend it, but the group never invents anything. The preciousness lies in the lonely mind of a man.”
—John Steinbeck, East of Eden
I don't disagree with this part either, but I think we should be precise about the talent on display.
In just 5 years, someone:
- Bets their career on SBF
- Gets fired from OpenAI for leaking
- Blows up a hedge fund
That does take a talent for sure. But what you call it?
Anthropic, OpenAI and Demis are all in favour of preparing a coordinate pause of frontier AI development.
Skate to where the puck will be people, not where it is now. This is a fast puck.
if you find yourself constantly asking how to prioritize your time in a world that changes day by day
you must first face the truth
you have not yet aligned on a long term mission for your life
for when you have unlocked that clarity, the priorities take care of themselves
