The quiet rotation
10 years ago, deep tech accounted for 4% of VC-PE funding in India. Today it is 15%.
AI alone went from 4.5% of venture funding in 2020 to 12.3% now.
For a CA, the work changes with it - cap tables now carry IP licensing, GPU costs and cross-border structuring, not just burn and runway.
India is moving from a services story to a core-tech one.
You see it on the cap table before you see it in the headlines.
Liquidity, the quieter way
Indian startup ESOP buybacks since 2020: $2 Bn in employee liquidity.
Q1 2026 alone has beaten the full-year totals of 2024 and 2025.
While IPOs grab the headlines and unicorn announcements get the press release, employees are quietly cashing out at scale.
For founders: ESOPs are no longer just retention currency. They are exit currency.
The cap table is finally working as designed.
From 45 to 4
2026 unicorn class so far (Jan to May):
Juspay (Jan) - payments
Neysa (Feb) - AI cloud
KreditBee (Apr) - lending
Skyroot (May) - spacetech, India's first
Four in four months. India minted 45 in 2021 alone.
Different ecosystem now - investors slower, founders sharper, valuations earned, not awarded.
Slowly, then sustainably.
A record with a different story underneath
April 2026 GST collection hit a record INR 2.43 L Cr, up 8.7% YoY.
But split it open:
Domestic GST: up just 4.3%
Import GST: up 25.8%
Refunds: up 19.3%
Domestic consumption is creeping. Imports - and Brent crossing $126 in March - did the heavy lifting.
The headline says all-time high. The detail says something else.
@rapidobikeapp has been looting people. The electronic city toll plaza charge is somewhat 60 or 65, but they are charging 128 for the same. When asking to speak to agent no response in time as well. This is a daylight loot.

@AngelOne I have been trying to get the split of sell value and buy value between intraday trading and overnight trading of equity for filing purposes for one of the clients trading in @AngelOne.
How are we supposed to arrive at the breakup?
Any solutions?
