Sometimes I worry that Gript is over-covering a topic, and then I remember that the Irish Times has basically published the exact same Fintan O'Toole piece 587 times now. He's at it again today. Pathological.
@p1nkwaves What a disaster. 3rd world country stuff. Plan on flying out of there in the Summer mate and really hope they have it sorted by then.
What annoys me is the COVID excuse is still being used and realistically the worst of the restrictions ended a year ago.
A No Fly Zone enforced by NATO is an act of war that could *easily start A NUCLEAR WAR*.
It is INSANE & coming from many of the same people who gave us Iraq/Afghan disasters.
People who suggest it/similar shd be nowhere near power.

The end-game, evidently, is to bisect Ukraine into two de facto states on the principle of East and West Germany or North and South Korea. And Kyiv will fall under Russia's dominion.
As absurd as this is, it's just an extreme example of how NI politics is more often about optics than reality. Getting a photo taken or going to a protest is often seen as more electorally advantageous than the hard graft of legislation & scrutiny which most voters don't see.
The Government's draconian covid laws led to thousands of people being fined, yet every charge under the Coronavirus Act 2020 was found to be unlawful.
That is why I'm joining @BigBrotherWatch in calling for the Government to review all covid fines and prosecutions.
If those who want change give in to cynicism and apathy, and idealize walking away, we will be stuck with the Jim Allisters, the Jeffrey Donaldsons, the Michelle O'Neills, and others. This repetitive cycle of stale politics must be broken and can be if the will was there. (2)
Today's events are a reminder that Northern Ireland will never change unless those who are silent actually stand up and make their voices heard. Until that point, we will be subject to the whims and opportunism of the DUP, Sinn Fein, UUP, SDLP, Alliance, the whole lot..... (1)
Why does the media gloat about unvaccinated people dying? There is something quite pathological about it.
Some of the responses under this post are a disgrace, and would normally called out as such, however because their target is a *dead* unvaccinated person it's permissable?
This guy will be back out on the streets in roughly 2 and a half years. The Attorney General should intervene and force a sentence review, and then Parliament should introduce legislation to increase mandatory minimum sentencing for crimes such as this. Frankly an embarrassment.
"On Monday, January 10 he was sentenced to five years and nine months and will be eligible for release after completing half of that time in custody." 🤡

"We know the kind of society we want. A society bound together by rights and obligations; rights bringing obligations, obligations fullfilled bringing rights."
