Visited @MuseumofLondon for the first time today and absolutely loved it! Of course, my favourite parts were the Victorian street and the walk-in version Charles Booth’s map of London...
Really enjoying doing some family history research now that I’ve completed my MPhil. There’s something incredibly exciting about tracing your own ancestors!
A new Library for a new century 📚. This image captured the building in 1900 when it had opened to readers on the 1st January. The building has changed little yet has witnessed the changing landscape of Manchester and her fortunes 🏙️
We ended up with two surprise additions. Firstly a bicycle tyre which emerged from the harbour with the statue, and then the discovery of a clue to the people who first installed it in Bristol: A 1895 magazine rolled up inside the coat tails.
We have collected all the signs that were laid in the city after yesterday's #BlackLivesMatter protest so we can preserve them for display in the @mshedbristol
Really enjoyed the first episode #AHouseThroughTime this week! Incredible use of archival material and a great example of how focused/local histories are connected to so many broader historical and social issues.
Really enjoyed using nineteenth-century playbills in my past research - fascinating sources! Plan to spend some of my free time working on this collection.
Immerse yourself in a world of playbills for theatres, fairs and gardens! New items have been added to the 'In the Spotlight' #crowdsourcing project. Help make these collections easier to find for future researchers; every contribution makes a difference https://t.co/eni1ZpIcs5
On the myth of the "Blitz Spirit", by @PolProfSteve. Myths have a value, but they become actively harmful if they teach us to rely on innate characteristics that do not exist or to overvalue "defiance", "muddling through" and "buggering on" as a strategy. https://t.co/yvIY88M6zP
Spending today at the archives looking at working class autobiography, something I’ve not yet used in my research. I always enjoy using more personal sources, so I’m excited to see what I find!
Had a busy week of training! Attended a Digital History workshop on the benefits and pitfalls of digitalising archival sources on Wednesday, and a seminar on curating exhibitions this morning, where we worked with primary documents from the University Library archives.
