Peak auction memory and a record that’ll probably stand forever
The 2008 IPL auction where MS Dhoni became, and till date remains, the only player to receive bids from all eight teams. Every franchise looked at him and saw the same thing, a leader who could genuinely shift their fortunes, not just another big name on the marquee.
And the best part is that he went out and justified every rupee of that belief. Trophies, finals, consistency, knockout moments, he turned that first ever bidding frenzy into the foundation of a dynasty. Add to it that he is one of the very few players still playing the IPL today and the whole story becomes even more unreal.
Looking back, it wasn’t hype, desperation or overrating. It was cricketing instinct at its finest. Everyone sensed they were bidding for the start of something historic, and they were absolutely right.
Very sad to see this. That very franchise he is talking about will not give a single penny. We should have our own things to do.
Fan base is ok but #idolism is killing us. They are just performers. Not our gods.
If you're around Pathankot or in Dharamshala for the IPL and are stuck due to the current situation, I have a homestay in Dharamshala that can comfortably accommodate 10–15 people. Feel free to reach out. Please retweet so it reaches someone in need.
