Some people are so stupid. Let Babu Owino teach students if he wants to. We must stay objective and rational in our criticism. What matters for me is his plan for the city, not slogans like “Babu kwasababu.” I want to see a realistic action plan with measurable key results, and not necessarily confined to a 5-year period. Show us how you’ll manage garbage, fix the drainage problem, make Nairobi walkable, and stop the unregulated construction destroying the city. That’s what leadership should look like not who will be the kingpin of sijui where. I challenge @HEBabuOwino to a space where we will only talk about what’s ailing Nairobi and his solutions, it will be like a strategy meeting.

Just like they do for American Presidents, we need presidential libraries for our presidents (Kenyatta, Moi, Kibaki, Uhuru, Ruto...et al) and Prime ministers (Raila) to house all primary and secondary literature on their tenure and history. Our history both good and ugly must be preserved for posterity.

Raila Odinga was a true champion of democracy. A child of independence, he endured decades of struggle and sacrifice for the broader cause of freedom and self-governance in Kenya. Time and again, I personally saw him put the interests of his country ahead of his own ambitions. Like few other leaders anywhere, he was willing to choose the path of peaceful reconciliation without compromising his core values. Through his life, Raila Odinga set an example not just for Kenyans, but across Africa and around the world. I know he will be missed. Michelle and I send our deepest condolences to his family and to the people of Kenya.
