A reminder, if one was ever needed, of how great and deeply respected Zimbabwean traditional music truly is.

Chiwoniso Maraire’s father, Professor Dumisani Maraire, was a renowned music professor both in America and in Zimbabwe.
His music continues to be taught in American schools to this day, which should put us to shame as Zimbabweans for not preserving and celebrating his legacy at home.

This performance of Vamudhara (Mapfeka Marengenya) took place at Smithtown High School East in New York.

While some ignorant Black Africans/Zimbabweans think that their music and culture are backward, people in America and Europe are not only learning about them but are also being examined and earning degrees in understanding them.
