Congratulations for the World Championship title acquired through a rough and long journey
Nothing truly erases Paris 2024, I think of Paris 2025 more like Shi Yuqi showing yet again that through bloody fights, he could still get back up again and again
"do u consider yourself as prodigy?"
shi yuqi: i dont really consider myself a prodigy. even when i was younger, i wasnt no 1 and usually just around 3 or 4. its not like what people say abt "genius" or "talent" i think my hard work thats what got me to where am i today.
🏆Shi Yuqi on beating 🇫🇷Christo Popov 21-16 16-21 21-17 in 🇨🇳China's #ThomasCup win:
"We both played well & showed the spirit of sport. The win feels amazing."
"The coach trusts you with that responsibility. Even when I feel down, I can still find a way to lift myself back up."
Wish I still have the energy to fully analyse his plays but one thing I can say, some of his plays that seems effortless, is accumulation of the variety he has acquired over time it seems
SYQ is an excellent athlete. He is not invincible. He is full of achievements and failures. Even at this point of his career we are still presented with a new side of him, the fired up and tired versions. I adore each one
Putting if he still plays as if SYQ’s contract allows him to leave at all before any junior can be more reliable (joking, idc about regeneration that much)
For and against depend on that factor the most, the thing is if looking at this performance trend sometimes he does need to warm up first before locking in, but physical-wise, I wonder if that kind of scoring is easier on his body (if he still plays)
I love that SYQ still plays in tournaments but it’s obvious that the heavy dependance his team has on him in team events is taking a huge toll on him physically and might affect his individual participation too
That said, gotta get on whatever protein and carb he took to be back at an incredible playing form
And congrats on lifting yet another team event throphy, Yuqi!

🎙️🇨🇳China captain Shi Yuqi ahead of the #ThomasCup:
"Every time, we say 'this is our toughest.' This one really is. And next time? We'll say the same."
"It's truly difficult."
"The key is to adjust our mindset. Keep that desire to win."
