News: Isaias Afwerki criticizes #UN’s record in Horn of Africa, urges fresh strategy for peace after meeting UN envoy
#Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki has said that the United Nations’ role and track record in resolving conflicts in the Horn of #Africa “has not been effective” and called for “a new approach” to peace efforts in the region.
According to Eritrea’s Minister of Information, President Isaias made the remarks during a meeting with Mr. Guang Cong, the new UN Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa, at the Denden Guest House in Asmara on 12 November 2025.
In their discussions, which focused on regional developments, President Isaias underscored that the mere deployment of peacekeeping forces “without rigorous accountability modalities and holistic underlying frameworks” could not yield lasting results. He added that the shortcomings of UN-led efforts should not be blamed solely on the organization, saying “the problem essentially stems from the prevailing flawed international order.”
President Isaias also criticized regional organizations, saying their effectiveness has been “compromised” by “unwarranted external interventions,” which, he argued, have turned them into “vehicles for external agendas.”
On the situation in #Sudan, President Isaias reaffirmed the “historical ties and partnership” between the two countries. He recalled that Eritrea had submitted a concept paper in 2022 proposing the establishment of a “popular governance structure based on citizenship” to support peace efforts in Sudan. However, he said the initiative “could not make much headway due to external interventions,” which he claimed have worsened the conflict.
In a brief statement to the Eritrean News Agency following the meeting, Mr. Guang Cong said his visit to Eritrea was part of his broader regional engagement. He expressed satisfaction with the “fruitful discussions” held with President Isaias, commended Eritrea’s contributions to regional peace efforts, and affirmed his readiness to work with Asmara “for the promotion of regional peace and stability.”
The meeting was attended by Eritrea’s Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and UN Resident Coordinator in Eritrea, Nahla Valji.
Mr. Guang Cong was appointed as the UN Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa in July 2025.
#AU#Africa simply has to step up @ymahmoudali !!
It has to offer the world something better than this tired narrative -- stepping up is key if the desire is to become a robust partner !

It was good to be back in Amman for talks with League of Arab States counterparts.
Jordan is a pillar of stability and one of the EU’s closest and most trusted partners in the Middle East. With Foreign Minister @AymanHsafadi, I spoke about the US-Iran peace talks and how the current truce can be turned into a more lasting peace.
In Lebanon, Israel and Hezbollah are caught in a dangerous cycle of attacks, counterattacks and fragile ceasefires. With Foreign Minister @YoussefRaggi, I reviewed the EU’s support for the Lebanese Armed Forces and work on establishing a new EU mission in the country.
The EU’s naval operation Aspides has a vital role in protecting shipping in the region. With Djibouti’s Foreign Minister Abdoulkader Houssain Omar, I discussed maritime security and the importance of freedom of navigation.
With Syria’s Foreign Minister @AsaadHShaibani, I exchanged views on regional security and the country’s path towards an inclusive political transition, building on the exchanges at our recent first ministerial dialogue.
I also reviewed the deepening bilateral relations and positive trajectory of EU-Algeria cooperation with Algeria’s Foreign Minister @AhmedAttaf_Dz.

There is no turf war.

Today, I had the distinct honor of representing the @_AfricanUnion Commission at the @TheOPECFund Forum 2026, as the Fund celebrates its Golden Jubilee.
At this historic milestone, we reaffirm the enduring value of multilateral cooperation and the shared commitment to building on a vision first set in motion by the leaders of the OPEC member countries in Algiers in 1975.

What does #Tsimdo have anything to do with #OLF ?!
I know some within the #Eritrean ecosystem wanted to broaden its scope purely out of political expediency but other than that, I see no relevancy.
News: #OLF warns country’s problems cannot be solved by elections alone, flags alignment of "#Tsimdoo" forces targeting Northern #Oromia
The statement further explained that the OLF's decision to participate in this Seventh General Election was driven by a commitment to fulfill mandatory legal requirements and to utilize the narrow political space available to communicate its objectives and principles to the public. "We believe we have succeeded in this regard, and we have absolutely no regrets," the party stated.
