Fonterra shareholders have decided to sell iconic dairy brands Mainland, Anchor, Kapiti and others to the French firm Lactalis.

This is utter madness. It is economic self-sabotage.

This is an outrageous short-sighted sugar hit that is just giving away New Zealand’s added value to a company from a major EU country.  There is now no long term security for New Zealand’s farmers.

Three years after this deal starts, Lactalis can begin the three year notice to terminate the milk supply to these brands. Six years is meaningless for a long-term exporter. When it’s over, it really is over.

Meanwhile, Lactalis secures ten years of raw milk for its own consumer brands. It is astonishing that business commentators do not see the irony of this.

Where will Miles Hurrell be when that happens? How much are he and the rest of the directors going to make out of this deal?

And why weren't he and his fellow directors transparent and upfront with the New Zealand people from the beginning?

Back in 2017, Winston Peters promised he would drop net migration to 10,000 a year.
Winston has been in government multiple times since…and never delivered.

🚨2025: And now they’re adding 10,000 parent visas a year!

So much for the “skilled migrants only” story...
Now anyone can come…even bring the whole family tree.

Meanwhile, Kiwi families can’t afford homes, childcare, or to live near their own parents.
We are not making any effort to build prosperous, generational Kiwi families.

@winstonpeters As a Certified Organic farmer, supplying Aucklanders with chemical free carrots, WE have to pay for the last government disaster: DDT. $500 just for one test. Will govt pay for GEFREE tests? No. Farmers are left with the cost. That Bill is the end of organic farming in NZ .
