"In my witnessed annual appraisal as a postdoc, my toxic PI listed several lies about me. When I tried to defend myself, I was told not to, as it was unprofessional to contradict my PI. The witness agreed I should sign off on the lies. Nightmare."

So much of the tea I am being sent already (and have heard IRL) is based on intentional deception, secrets & lies. Just be honest! If someone is your competitor, don't pretend they're your collaborator.
