@TheCountyCrick2@lintott23 Nothing but admiration for JL’s commitment and perseverance in forging a career in the game. All the best with the next chapter!
@rwilliams1947@tjaldred Interesting article. Grew up on Bassetlaw league cricket. Father recalled working a shift underground, followed by strapping kit bag to bike handlebars & cycling to play a match!!
The #BWF is saddened by the passing of its former President and Honorary Life Vice President Sir Craig Reedie at the age of 84.

“Time flies, love endures.”
Exactly 50 years ago, as a young 14-year-old, I remember bursting with excitement because, as a special treat, my Mother was taking me to finals day at the 1976 All England, the oldest and most prestigious annual tournament in the sport of #badminton.
I had been looking forward to that day for literally weeks on end, and I can still recall with absolute clarity the sheer joy and excitement building to a crescendo as we neared Wembley Arena.
Finals Day didn’t disappoint, it was everything I hoped for, and more! Gillian Gilks won the triple (WS, WD and MxD). Rudy Hartono won his 8th MS title in 9 years, and Fröman/Kihlström of Sweden interrupted Indonesia’s dominance in the MD.
It was a simply wonderful and thrilling experience, and I even managed to get Gillian Gilks’ autograph (which I’ve kept to this day). Never in my wildest dreams could I ever have imagined back then, that 2 of the winners I watched that day would become future doubles partners. Gill and I later became WR1 in WD, and Thomas Kihlström and I reached the 1985 #AllEngland MxD final.
It’s easy to understand the status of the event back in 1976 as it was a year before the sport’s first ever World Championships, and badminton didn’t become a full Olympic sport until 1992. So, 50 years ago winning the All England was without doubt the pinnacle achievement within the sport. But its history and tradition means the #YonexAllEngland is still regarded in badminton, in a similar way to Wimbledon in tennis.
In many ways things have changed dramatically over the last 50 years. Back then China and Korea didn’t participate. Nowadays it simply isn’t possible to excel at the very elite level in all 3 disciplines. The venue has changed. The scoring system has changed (several times). Huge prize money is now on offer, and live coverage is beamed to every corner of the globe. Yet as I prepare for commentary at the 116th #YAE, I still feel the same joy and excitement as I did when a young teenager 50 years ago.
Time really does fly, as 5 decades have simply flashed by. Many things may have changed, but without doubt, my love and passion for this very special tournament endures.
Today we had a wonderful wicket keeping masterclass with the ever amazing @23rat Simon Guy going through how the keepers can prepare themselves, how to create appropriate drills themselves for warm ups, posture, catching areas, movement patterns and catches of varying heights
👏 We couldn't be prouder of Thomas Rew for captaining England U19s all the way to the World Cup final.
Despite a defeat to India in the final, his leadership and performances throughout the tournament were exceptional, including three 'Player of the Match' medals.
An incredibly bright future ahead. We can’t wait to see him back to the Cooper Associates County Ground this season!
