A camera sat beneath Starship’s Super Heavy booster as all 33 Raptor engines ignited at once

Inside each Raptor, methane and oxygen produce combustion gases approaching 3,000°C, or roughly 5,400°F

Then the full engine array erupts, hammering the launch mount with supersonic exhaust, violent shockwaves, extreme acoustic energy, vibration, water spray and enormous clouds of steam

Yet the camera kept recording through the entire ignition sequence from directly beneath the mount, without the view ever clouding or fogging

SpaceX team engineered a way to capture footage from the most brutal launch environments imaginable

Orcas pulled up and surfed right alongside them.

At Sunset Beach in Port Waikato, New Zealand, a pod of orcas joined two surfers in the lineup and rode the same waves just a few feet away. One guy ducked under a wave and came up face to face with a dorsal fin bigger than he was.

They weren’t hunting anyone. They were just checking out something new in the water.

There’s no record of a wild orca ever killing a human. Still doesn’t make it any less unnerving to look up and see one that close.
