The African Centre for Global Health and Social Transformation is an initiative promoted by African and international leaders in health and development.
It is almost that time of the year again where turning a year older means giving back. I am looking for 5 charities (preferably those involved in helping out those highly affected by the pandemic) to support in May. Please help me with suggestions.
Thank you.
All concerned national and local level authorities work collaboratively to put into place protective measures such as safe houses and shelters within at-risk communities to protect girls from both child marriage and FGM, and to ensure that they are continueing their education.
To promote the elimination of female genital mutilation, coordinated and systematic efforts are needed, and they must engage whole communities and focus on human rights, gender equality, sexual education and attention to the needs of women and girls who suffer from it.
Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons and is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights, the health and the integrity of girls and women.
Global health crises threaten to overwhelm already overstretched health systems, disrupt global supply chains and cause disproportionate devastation of the livelihoods of people, including women and children, and the economies of the poorest and most vulnerable countries
As exemplified by the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic major infectious diseases and epidemics have devastating impacts on human lives, wreaking havoc on long-term social and economic development.
In the event of the absence of international attention, future epidemics could surpass previous outbreaks in terms of intensity and gravity. There is great need of raising awareness, the exchange of information, scientific knowledge and best practices and quality education
There is an urgent need to have resilient and robust health systems, reaching those who are vulnerable or in vulnerable situations.
