The currency has lost a lot of value due to the excessive QE printing so we need more of them to purchase something.

The tax brackets remain unchanged, so technically we lose out both ends!

Almost 5.6m — 1 in 6 taxpayers — will pay higher rate since Sunak froze threshold at which people start paying 40%. In 1990 40% rate was paid by just 6.5% of taxpayers. Now a marginal rate intended only for high earners is being paid by teachers, nurses, police.

@duncancbaker I think it's quite clear the UK government wants to phase out cash and move to a full digital currency, unfortunately that means more government control can be easily added to that concept.
