we are the Cambridge chapter of Europe Must Act, campaigning to show that Cambridge supports the urgent relocation of asylum-seekers from Aegean island camps.
SOS! ~80 lives at risk!
This morning, we received a distress call from a boat in the Maltese SAR zone, with ~80 people on board, escaping from #Libya. We lost contact 4h ago. RCC Malta fails to answer our calls. We call on them to not delay rescue once again. Act immediately!
The conservatives are doing a survey on the borders bill, let's show them we don't agree with the anti-refugee bill #RefugeesWelcome https://t.co/5JYk875BeF
How an Afghan refugee who managed to reach the UK would be treated under #AntiRefugeeBill (Nationality and Borders Bill):
- Asylum claim inadmissible
- Flung into Covid-ridden barracks
- Sent back to a country they passed through
- Pay another country to take them (offshoring)
The Nationality & Borders Bill, which receives its second reading in Parliament tomorrow, will have a devastating impact on the lives of people seeking asylum in the UK.

The Government's latest attempt to offshore refugees won't stop desperate people from making dangerous journeys. The only way to do so is to create new, safe routes to sanctuary for all those seeking safety. #SafeRoutesSaveLives#NewRoutesNow https://t.co/XWByOWIgTT

Today, on King’s Parade in Cambridge, we read the names of some of the 44,000 refugees who have died at European borders. It was a time for remembrance, and for understanding that humane alternatives to Europe’s disgraceful border policy exist.
Today #WorldRefugeeDay we are reading the names of the 44,000* people who have died at the borders of "Fortress Europe" as a result of Europe's (including the UKs) inhumane migration policy. We will remember them.

We are not facing ‘unprecedented’ and ‘overwhelming’ numbers of new asylum claims. We are not ‘under siege’.
The number of new asylum claims has been very similar for the last five years and is over 70% less than 20 years ago.

“Every human has a right to live their life in peace”.
Please read and share this heartbreaking statement from one of the 6000+ asylum seekers on #Lesvos.
This is from a resident of a camp on #Lesvos. 6000+ people live here with limited access to heating, electricity & sanitation.
This cannot be the best the Europe has to offer people who have fled war & persecution. Seeking asylum is not a privilege, it is a legal & human right.
