@freakmongerGG@WARDOGS Nobody is asking to host public servers on random home PCs or sacrifice security for mods. Established communities operate professional dedicated hardware with monitoring and DDoS protection. Self-hosting and security are not mutually exclusive.
@WilhHy@WARDOGS Exactly. Whoever decided that third-party rental should be the only option has clearly never operated a serious community server. It kills modding, custom tooling, automation and the long-term ecosystem that keeps games like Arma alive
@NEKR1D@WARDOGS Probably €100+ for a black box: no CPU model, core allocation or oversubscription data. Pay extra for a “premium tier” and hope it isn’t sharing an exhausted Xeon. Meanwhile, self-hosting on a dedicated 9950X3D or 14900K is banned in the name of performance.
@WARDOGS Protecting your server architecture is an engineering responsibility, not a justification for vendor lock-in. Ship a stripped public binary, keep services and secrets separate, sign builds and authenticate servers. Security should be designed, not outsourced to approved hosts.
@WARDOGS@BULKHEAD If performance is the real concern, why not publish hardware requirements and certify self-hosted servers? A commercial host can oversell shared hardware, while an experienced community may own a dedicated 9950X. Forcing everyone to rent from approved providers is vendor lock-in
@WARDOGS So WARDOGS is following Battlefield’s path: no self-hosting, approved rental providers and a limited control panel. Apparently nobody checked how well that worked out for Battlefield’s community server scene😐
