The Office of the AU Special Envoy on Women, Peace & Security hosted the #AfricanWomenVoicesforPeace (AWVP) & ActionAid to explore how grassroots women's voices can reach Africa's peace tables.
The Health Assembly concluded with commitments to strengthen supervision, improve data use, enhance malaria and immunization awareness, revitalize quality improvement systems and expand integrated outreaches to build a more accountable, responsive health system.
The RDC commended the district health team & @actionaiduganda for supporting initiatives aimed at improving service delivery. He cautioned against drug theft and exploitation of patients, emphasizing government’s commitment to strengthening accountability within the health sector
Despite these challenges, the supervision exercise highlighted several positive developments. Most health facilities had staff present on duty, maintained clean compounds, conducted community outreaches and ensured regular reporting systems were in place.
A district health system assessment highlighted both progress and critical gaps. Leadership and governance scored 43%, while 95% of assessed health facilities faced challenges in medicines management, prescribing, dispensing, ordering systems, staffing and data utilization.
The review covered 18 health facilities and utilized the Ministry of Health’s Health Facility Quality of Care Assessment Program (HFQAP) tool to evaluate service delivery, accountability, staffing, infrastructure, medicines management and patient-centered care.
Kapchorwa District, in collaboration with @actionaiduganda recently hosted a Health Assembly that brought together district leaders, health workers, civil society organizations and development partners to assess the quality of healthcare services across the district.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening community-based mediation, dialogue, and collaboration with local leaders. The meeting underscores the importance of inclusive peace structures in preventing conflict and fostering lasting peace in Amuru District.
The Paramount Chief Of Lamogi Rwot Otinga Atuka Otto Yai has commended @actionaiduganda for its continued support to returnees(war survivors)and cultural institutions, emphasizing the important role traditional leaders play in reconciliation and social healing.
Prime Minister of Lamogi Chiefdom, Lanek Richard Jomo, called for moderation in bride price negotiations, promoted education as a pathway to development, pledged action against alcoholism, and urged communities to embrace peace, brotherhood, and non-violence.
Discussions have also focused on land dispute management, inheritance rights for women and girls, identity documentation for children of returnees, rising alcoholism, and the role of cultural institutions in sustaining peace and social harmony.
Members have shared success stories from community-led mediation efforts, citing improvements in resolving family conflicts, addressing gender-based violence, reducing youth-related disputes, and fostering positive parenting practices at household level.
