On National Doctors’ Day, we honour the dedication, compassion, and service of doctors who care for people in their moments of greatest need, often under challenging conditions.
Their work also reminds us of an important principle: healthcare, like education and care work, is too fundamental to be left to market forces alone. These are public goods that every person should be able to access, regardless of income or social status.
The best way to honour doctors is not only to celebrate their commitment, but also to strengthen public health systems, invest in those who provide care, and ensure that quality healthcare remains a right enjoyed by all—not a privilege available only to those who can afford it.
This National Doctors’ Day, let us recommit to building a society where care comes before profit and health belongs to everyone @sndeep

Celebrating Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Day
Nature’s resilience comes from diversity. Healthy ecosystems depend not only on giant trees but also on shrubs, grasses, insects, fungi, and microscopic life—each playing a vital role.
Our economy is no different. Its strength lies not only in large corporations but in the millions of medium, small, micro, and household enterprises that create livelihoods, drive innovation, and sustain local communities.
Just as biodiversity strengthens ecosystems, enterprise diversity strengthens economies. By investing in businesses of every size—and in the workers and entrepreneurs behind them—we build a future that is more resilient, more inclusive, and more sustainable.

The absolute prohibition of torture was once regarded as one of humanity’s clearest moral and legal achievements. It reflected a global consensus that no circumstance—not war, terrorism, political instability, or national security—could ever justify the deliberate infliction of torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment.
In recent decades, however, these principles have come under growing strain. Practices such as “extraordinary rendition”, secret detention, indefinite incarceration without due process, and the use of euphemisms such as “enhanced interrogation techniques” have sought to obscure or legitimise actions that violate the spirit and letter of international human rights law. Around the world, torture and ill-treatment continue to be reported in prisons, police custody, conflict zones, and under all kinds of regimes, including the USA.
On the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, we reaffirm a simple but essential principle: human dignity cannot be suspended in the name of security. Justice, accountability, and respect for human rights remain the strongest safeguards against violence, abuse of power, and impunity.
