ROOM 407
Episode 15: "The Escape"
Elias slowly opened the last page of the sorcerer's journal.
Written in faded ink was the sorcerer's final message:
"The key was never written on one page. Every symbol, and every direction is scattered throughout this journal. Only when they are united will the Seven Rings reveal the path home."
Daniel finally understood. The journal wasn't meant to be read... It was meant to be solved.
For years, Elias had tried.
He unfolded hundreds of worn parchments covered with failed combinations of symbols and sketches of the wooden door.
Daniel carefully compared the journal with Elias's notes. Then something caught his attention.
"The symbols aren't arranged by page..." Daniel said.
"They're arranged by the order of the doors the sorcerer drew."
Elias stared at him..
Daniel quickly rearranged the symbols, matched the angles, and traced the final sequence.
Together, they hurried to the ancient wooden door. Following Daniel's discovery, they slowly rotated each ring into place.
Until the seventh ring clicked. The wooden door slowly creaked open. At that same moment...
Every sealed door across the spirit realm swung open.
From them emerged countless trapped souls were released, Amelia came out and other people.. Some were already old.
Elias stood frozen, tears streaming down his face.
"We're... free."
Daniel looked back at the journal.
On the very last line, was the sorcerer last message:
"If you are reading this, then you have succeeded where I could not." I solved the gateway... but I did not know its price. Every ounce of power I poured into creating this realm consumed my own life. By the time i could finish up, my strength, and my remaining years had already been claimed."
"The gateway demanded a sacrifice... and I unknowingly offered my own life."
Daniel closed the journal in silence. The sorcerer had never failed to solve the puzzle.
He had simply run out of life before he could walk towards the door.
As dawn broke over the forest, Daniel, Elias, and the surviving souls stepped back into the world of the living for the first time in decades.
Behind them...
The wooden door slowly faded into the trees. As though it had never existed.
THE END.
