TREMORS: DOME OF THE FERAL
Script Synopsis
Thirty-five years after the Perfection outbreak, a deep-earth research expedition funded by a shadowy energy conglomerate drills into an uncharted geothermal dome two miles beneath the Nevada desert. What they expect to find is magma and minerals. What they pull out is a half-naked, sun-starved, wild-eyed man who hasn’t spoken a coherent sentence to another human since 1992.
His name is Valentine McKee.
Kevin Bacon returns as a feral Val—gaunt, scarred, hair to his waist, moving on all fours when startled. He survived by discovering the one place on Earth the Graboids never hunt: their own breeding lair, a cathedral-sized cavern of moist, pulsing egg sacs and translucent larvae the size of turkeys. Val learned to harvest the larvae, carving them open and eating them raw for protein, water, and—unbeknownst to him—a mild psychotropic mucus that has kept him alive but slowly erased his grip on language and sanity.
The research team’s security footage shows Val fighting off a newborn Graboid with nothing but a sharpened femur and a look of bored irritation. They sedate him, haul him topside, and call the only man who might get through to what’s left of Val’s mind: Burt Gummer (Michael Gross), now seventy-something, still paranoid, still armed to the teeth, and the only person Val ever trusted.
Burt arrives expecting a reunion. He finds a creature who flinches at his voice yet stops thrashing the moment Burt quietly says, “Hey, Val… it’s me, you dirtbag.” Through fragmented, guttural exchanges—half English, half animal grunt—Val reveals the horrifying truth: the breeding lair isn’t dying out. It’s expanding. The larvae are mutating faster underground, developing thicker hides and a new ability to tunnel upward in coordinated packs. In weeks, they’ll breach the surface by the thousands.
The government wants the dome nuked. The corporation wants the larvae’s regenerative enzymes. Burt wants his friend back. Val—now more animal than man—only wants to go home… to the only place he feels safe: the lair itself.
What follows is a brutal, blackly comic race against time as Burt and a handful of skeptical scientists escort a half-feral Val back into the earth. Val’s instincts are sharper than any sonar. His knowledge of Graboid behavior is godlike. But every hour topside erodes what little humanity he has left, and the larvae he once ate are now calling to him—singing through the rock in frequencies only he can hear.
In the final act, inside the glowing, amniotic heart of the breeding dome, Val must choose: rejoin the monsters that kept him alive… or remember how to be human long enough to help Burt blow the entire nest to hell.
