ACUA Ocean and Teledyne FLIR recently partnered on a UKDI funded programme which saw Teledyne FLIR’s SkyCarrier™ UAS platform autonomously launch a SkyRanger® R70 drone, operated remotely from ACUA Ocean’s USV Pioneer — the UK’s first Lloyd’s Register-certified remotely operated uncrewed vessel to deliver a persistent, long-endurance maritime intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) platform for Royal Navy and wider UK defence customers.

ACUA Ocean and Teledyne FLIR Defense completed a UKDI-funded demonstration pairing the SkyCarrier drone launch system with the USV Pioneer for the UK MOD.
In January 2026, USV Pioneer maintained stability in 4.25-m waves, cutting roll by 60 percent compared to monohull vessels.

ACUA has signed a memorandum of understanding with Babcock and Frankenburg Technologies to explore integrating low-cost precision missiles onto uncrewed surface vessels, creating persistent, affordable counter-drone capability for the maritime domain.
The agreement brings together Babcock's multi-domain launcher system, Frankenburg's mass-manufacturable interceptor missiles, and ACUA's Pioneer-class uncrewed surface vessels.
The Pioneer recently operated 16 to 20 nautical miles offshore for more than 100 hours without hands-on intervention. This kind of seakeeping stability makes the concept viable in the rough weather conditions where conventional systems fail.
This partnership could see persistent armed pickets holding station offshore in sea states that normally defeat traditional platforms. The vehicles can be used to protect ships, ports and critical maritime infrastructure against mass drone attacks, closer to the cost of drones themselves.
This crossover of ocean technology serves conservation and sovereignty simultaneously, showing that when you build for the hardest environments at sea, the applications compound.
Congratulations to Neil Tinmouth and the ACUA team.

Offshore operations don’t happen on glassy lake conditions in 1m swells. They require persistence, reliability and stability - vessels that can be fully operational and not just survive in higher sea states.
USV Pioneer is the only uncrewed surface vessel to achieve MCA Workboat Code 3 certification - validating its design, redundancy and capability.

UK companies Babcock and ACUA Ocean Technologies, together with Estonia’s Frankenburg Technologies, are developing a maritime counter-drone system combining unmanned surface vessels, modular launchers, and precision-guided interceptor missiles.

A robotic boat has launched its own drone at sea, with no crew on either vehicle. The UK-funded system could give the Royal Navy weeks of ocean surveillance without putting a single sailor at risk.

🇪🇪 Frankenburg Technologies (@FrankenburgTech) has partnered with 🇬🇧 UK's Babcock International (@Babcockplc) and ACUA Ocean (@ACUAOcean) to provide maritime CUAS solutions.
"Now with ACUA Ocean on board, the parties will bring together three distinct elements: Babcock’s multi-domain launcher system with Frankenburg’s low-cost, precision-guided missile systems, integrated into ACUA Ocean’s uncrewed surface vessels (USV).
Babcock’s launcher system can be fitted onto both crewed and uncrewed surface vessels, built at pace and scaled quickly. In June ACUA Ocean’s PIONEER USV recently operated continuously for 16–20 nautical miles offshore, completing more than 100 hours at sea without any hands-on intervention."
