@Bruce_Fummey earliest reference to ‘Merlin’ at… see below. That’s why I know the story. Suggest you YouTube me. I am off to Arthur’s first battlefield in Argyll, in two weeks - thanks to Kurt, a German scholar.
@ArthurianSoc I only know this stuff because my second name led to my finding evidence in an old book in the National Library of Scotland - it turned out it was also in line. That’s life.
@ArthurianSoc for those who don’t know their ‘Merlin’ the earliest ref to him has him at battle of Arderydd 573CE. Year before Arthur Mac Aedan took a sword from a stone - no magic involved. Pure coincidence?
@ArthurianSoc Dunadd hillfort on the lands of Baodan/Badon/Badden is not Mount Badon - that's Dunardry 3km south. Those who know their 'Merlin' will get the connection. Arthur connected to Dunadd/Badon #Merlin' connected to Dunardry. Mere coincidence? Mt. Badon top left.
@ArthurianSoc if you know about these things you will know Badon is 12th Nennius Arthur battle. First is Glein - actually River Gillean where Hist. Arthur fought Hist. Battle in 574 CE. 22 miles from Baodan / Badon / Badden. View toward mouth of the river.
@ArthurianSoc consensus per Prof Alcock - six Badons but no Arthur and if you look at the map - no Badons. Scotland has one Badon - Baodan / Badon / Badden which comes with an historical Arthur, Arthur Mac Aedan. Google Map Lochgilphead. Historical ‘Merlin’ connection too.
@ArthurianSoc historical Arthur Mac Aedan c. 559 -596 CE present at Baodan/Badon/Badden in 573 for an inauguration and in 588 for the battle. Google Map Lochgilphead. Corroborative evidence available.
@RockolaPepe Agreed. Joe of Arimethea irrelevant. Google Map Lochgilphead - see Badden. Google ‘king’ Arthur and Badon (sic). All within 3 square km. Mere coincidence?
The truth is the truth about Arthur has been passed down in my family from one generation to another. The whole truth is I found the truth about Arthur and I told my son and so the truth about Arthur was passed down from one generation to another. That’s it.
@RockolaPepe Joseph, Interesting re your family. Careful re the Joseph of Arimethea story. The supernatural has been inserted in the Jesus & Arthur stories. Joseph inserted in both. People like supernatural stuff. I don’t take it seriously.
@ArdreyKellHS Ardrey, 6th c. Gaelic Ard Airigh, High Lord. Google Map just W of Cairnbaan Lochgilphead. Dunardry (sic) earliest ref. to Merlin yup that Merlin at battle of Arderydd 573 CD.
The ‘magic’ spring of Barenton, said to be in France (to please French-English audience) is, in reality, the non-magic spring at Barnton, three miles west of Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh. Just noted it is hard to see in the image - bottom right it now feeds a horse trough.
@NorseRenegade@s_greenblatt Thank you. After Finding Arthur I found that the magic spring of Barenton, said to be in France, is in fact the non magic spring in Barnton, three miles west of Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh. It is still there.
One flaw in @s_greenblatt otherwise perfect Dark Rennaissance ‘this island of England’ p 180. There are three countries on this Sceptred Isle this… oh!
I have read three books twice; Stephen Greenblatt’s The Swerve, Doris Kearns Goodwin’s Team of Rivals and @sarah_fraseruk The Last Highlander; and one book three times @sarah_fraseruk The Last Highlander.
@tomclarke2015 Best wishes to you and good luck with your new book 📕. Where can I buy a real copy? You have tweeted once in ten years - so not a kindle man either, I suspect. Adam
