NBA OPENING NIGHT
🏀OG ANUNOBY O16.5 POINTS (-114 FD) | 1 UNIT
🍀OG 21 POINTS & KARL ANTHONY-TOWNS 5 ASSISTS (+365 FANATICS) | .2 UNITS
We’re starting Year 5 with OG Anunoby on ring night at MSG.
This is more of an eye-test play than anything. I simply believe the Knicks leading scorers are mispriced. Karl-Anthony Towns is listed at 18.5 points and OG at 16.5. I actually believe those numbers should be flipped. I’ve been pretty vocal about expecting OG to take another leap offensively this season, and I believe he’ll establish himself as the Knicks’ second scoring option behind Jalen Brunson.
We saw flashes of that throughout the championship run. OG averaged 21.2 PPG in the NBA Finals, including performances of 28 and 33 points against San Antonio. He also dropped 24 against Philadelphia in the second round.
The early preseason usage was encouraging, too. OG finished with roughly a 20% usage rate, second-highest among Knicks starters. Mike Brown has also discussed getting OG more involved offensively, which aligns with what I’ve been seeing.
Now the matchup. I LOVE the potential for OG to attack the paint tomorrow. He scored 41% of his points at the rim last season. He’s incredibly physical, uses his strength to bully smaller defenders and can get downhill whenever he wants. Joel Embiid is still a presence, but he’s not the same rim protector he was in his prime. Philadelphia’s frontcourt depth is also a mess. Dominick Barlow, Dean Wade and Tacko Fall are all dealing with injuries and may miss Tuesday’s game. Meanwhile backup center Ariel Hukporti is out for the season with a torn Achilles.
I think there’s a legitimate chance we’re getting an outdated number on OG before the market adjusts to his offensive role this season.
Ring night. Banner going up. I’m expecting OG to be aggressive from the jump. For .2U I’m sprinkling OG to score 21 points & KAT to dish 5 assists. The combination was masterful during the Knicks title run. KAT’s vision has been on full display this preseason.
