H.E. @MosesVilakati, Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment at the @_AfricanUnion Commission, took the stage to unpack the thinking behind the Africa Urban Forum.
Established in 2022, the Forum was designed to convene political leadership, policy dialogue, and partnerships shaping Africa’s urban agenda.
Since the first forum in Ethiopia in 2024, the conversation has shifted from dialogue to delivery, as ideas begin to take shape in real, inclusive, and resilient cities across the continent, with Kenya emerging as a benchmark.

How can #African youth shape the continent’s future?
At the @giz_gmbh Leadership Conference in Addis Ababa, GIZ country directors from Sub-Sahara Africa & senior managers of GIZ’s Africa Department discussed youth empowerment, innovation, and support for the #Agenda2063.
@ZeynuUmmer, Director @UNDPAfrica Resilience Hub, noted that concerted and coordinated actions are required at all levels to fully implement the Africa Urban Resilience Programme (#AURP) and hailed the launch of the Programme as a remarkable moment in Africa’s urban agenda. #DRR
Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director @UNHABITAT, noted that Africa has a unique chance to address urban sprawl through smart and innovative solutions and proper land use. She reiterated @UNHABITAT's support in implementing the AURP through the Aqinile Partnership. #AUF
Joachim Beijmo, Head of Regional Development Cooperation @SweinEthiopia, stated that Sweden is encouraged by the knowledge-sharing and partnership opportunities presented by the Africa Urban Resilience Programme and commended the AU Commission and @UNDP for their cooperation.

Anderson Banda, the Director of the SADC Humanitarian and Operations Centre (SHOC) reiterated the commitment of @SADC_News to building and strengthening regional resilience against disaster, as epitomised in the 2022 Maputo Declaration on multi-hazard early warning systems. #DRR #AMHEWAS
Titus Ng’andu, Director of Disaster Risk Management @DMMUZambia, noted that through the national multi-hazard contingency plan contingency plan developed in 2023, accurate forecasts on prolonged dry spells in 2024 were made. Hence, these forecasts guided the institution in activating its response plan once drought hit the country. #DRR
Diane Aboubakar, the AUC Senior Policy Officer for Disaster Risk Reduction, representing the Director of Sustainable Environment and Blue Economy (#SEBE) expressed the Commission’s gratitude to donors and implementing partners for the #AMHEWAS Programme. He noted that the rollout of AMHEWAS has been successful, with five situation rooms already running and others in the pipeline. #DRR
