@ElephantEating Rare cross over in that I found you for the ceremonial bread thread and stayed for the discussions on Capacity Markets vs energy only markets.
@AJMackay87 Thanks Jaymes, as you say never doing to get (and don't want) 100% agreement, but I do feel that some supporters of either tech need to realise we can meet in the middle and do better together rather than fighting.
Hydrogen vs electrification - a thread/rant (note before we start all views my own, don't sue etc.). Given there have been a lot of media and industry stories on H2 vs electrification and some heated responses to these I thought I'd weigh in as well + add more H2 to the fire 1/X
@TomH_Analyst @NotionalGrid Your right - mass green H2 (rather than defined use cases) relies on the idea of significant and regular volumes of excess power, which flex could/can/should be able to manage. I'd put limited green H2 in the flex bracket itself though - question is how much is limited I suppose?
@LordBoulder Also more than fair - I left of heat networks just because I don't see the same level of 'this is the only solution all others are wrong' for them, but you are right. Whatever the solution we'll see heat networks used where they make sense
Although I suppose the question here is do we need long term seasonal storage (probably?) and how do we want to do it - H2 or ammonia, fuel cells or converted CCGTs, GB or EU network etc.?
@NotionalGrid Very fair point and probably should have been an addendum - there will be a limit on how much H2 we can produce and it should be focused on the valuable areas - storage, chemicals, and I'd add niche transport (shipping etc.)
I hope that wasn’t too controversial or teaching people to suck eggs, but if anyone wants to disagree, talk further, get into the detail, or tell me to shut up – please get in touch! 9/9
Having established all of that, so what? Well first of all, devotees on both sides need to admit that we will need and see both fuels developed and funded in future. This means cooperating and hopefully presenting a unified front to the public/ policy makers/ investors etc. 8/X
