I will never understand how some Muslims admire Russia, a state which has murdered millions of Muslims (Syrians, Afghans, Kazakhs, Crimeans, Chechens, Circassians), and is always eager to see the corpses of more.
Afghanistan bleeds again. The Pakistan terrorist army has once again targeted civilians in the dead of night in Kunar and Helmand, killing women and children and injuring dozens more. Why is the international community silent? Where is the rule of law? Where is the accountability?
UNAMA has confirmed that at least 10 civilians were killed, most of them children, and 9 people injured in airstrikes carried out in #Afghanistan's Kunar and Helmand provinces earlier today.

I cannot overstate how egregious it is for Egyptian authorities to arrest the ENTIRE NEWSROOM of an investigative journalism platform. We're witnessing one of the most serious press freedom escalations in Egypt in years.

🔴 Day 1,836 since the Taliban closed secondary schools for Afghan girls.
The world has largely forgotten the daily struggle facing Afghan women and girls. But they have not.
I have interviewed extraordinary women and girls who continue to meet, teach and share their experiences - at great personal risk - in their struggle for a free society.
You are not forgotten.

"Hezbollah’s shield is the narrative that it protects Lebanon’s Shia. The state must reclaim its role as the sole guarantor of all citizens. When citizens feel protected by the state, they no longer need protection from militias" writes @makramrabah

In the Egyptian context, we similarly have "Egypt vs. Masr."
It's worrying to see this phenomena so early into the transition and as Egypt today shows us, unless serious steps are taken early on to address root inequities, these differences will only continue to intensify.
1/ Thirty years ago, on 27 September 1996, the Taliban seized former Afghan president Najibullah and his brother, Shahpur, from the UN compound in Kabul and killed them.
Three decades later, the argument over Najib’s party, the PDPA, and its years in power is far from over. 🧵👇
Today, I spoke at the WPS Ministerial-Level Side Event during the 81st UN General Assembly, sharing the realities and experiences of Afghan women. Protection and meaningful participation must go hand in hand. After five years of exclusion, we need action, accountability, and Afghan women at the table.

It is beautiful to see Syrian singer Assala back in Syria — free at last! 🇸🇾
It is also good that the government didn't bow to clerics demanding a ban on the concert.
Clerics can preach as they believe — but society is diverse, and governments should respect all ways of life.
