“It does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.”
- Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia
Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez:
Starting next week, my government will implement the following actions:
First, we will change the law in Spain to hold platform executives legally accountable for many infringements taking place on their sites.
Second, we will turn algorithmic manipulation and amplification of illegal content into a new criminal offense.
Third, we will implement a hate and polarization footprint system to track, quantify, and expose how digital platforms fuel division and amplify hate.
Fourth, Spain will ban access to social media for minors under the age of 16. Platforms will be required to implement effective age verification systems — not just checkboxes, but real barriers that work.
Fifth and last, my government will work with our public prosecutor to investigate and pursue the infringement committed by Grok, TikTok, and Instagram.
NOTE: The federal judges deciding bigger questions about ICE's conduct in MN have been inundated with these detention cases for months. They're the backdrop to everything unfolding now. Judge Tostrud has handled dozens. This ruling isn't in a vacuum: https://t.co/JVyGNzTeXR
ANOTHER ONE: Ruling tonight from Judge Gerrard in Minnesota ordering the immediate return and release of a pregnant woman, who was apprehended on her way to work, and her husband + two sons. https://t.co/q3RcsXrNTW
Here's another Minnesota ruling that just came in tonight: A federal judge is threatening DHS with contempt for transfering a petitioner out of the state despite a court order enjoining the administration from doing so. https://t.co/F2xSItEI55
Yet another ruling from Friday, freeing a man detained by ICE in Minnesota who suffered severe head injuries during his arrest and has been hospitalized since. The man claims ICE has required him to be shackled in the hospital, against the wishes of drs. https://t.co/H5YziRYmZm
Another ruling just yesterday in Minnesota: A federal judge calls it "particularly craven" that ICE transfered "a nursing refugee mother" out of state. Ta Eh Doh Lah was admitted as a refugee from Myanmar in 2024, has no criminal history and a 5-month-old. https://t.co/RIHZJd6p2l
Here's another ruling in Minnesota, also yesterday, releasing a man who was forcefully detained by ICE despite having *active* refugee status. https://t.co/JVmI4Uzdyr
Minnesota courts have been inundated with these cases since the beginning of Operation Metro Surge last month. Here's a ruling by Judge Bryan from yesterday, freeing a man who as detained after living in the US for 20 years with no criminal record. https://t.co/nO6nxXMeNQ
Since July, I've tracked at least 2,300 cases in which federal judges have ruled ICE has illegally detained people without bond or due process.
This is one that stands out:

This Minneapolis resident just said what everyone should be feeling right now:
“This started as a pretext about immigration and fraud… it’s WELL beyond that now.
It’s your 2nd Amendment, your 4th Amendment, your 6th Amendment.”
“We’re performing CPR on what may already be a corpse called the Constitution.”
Wake up. This isn’t just Minneapolis. It’s ALL of us.
Radical Christian nationalist former Trump administration official William Wolfe backs ICE's brutal deportation operations: "I don't care how much they scream. I don't care how much they cry."

A magistrate judge found no probable cause to support arrest warrants for 5 people involved in the St. Paul church protest.
DOJ appealed to the 8th Cir.
That appeal led to this remarkable letter from the Chief Judge of the Minnesota district court…

As insane as this sounds, it’s true: Pam Bondi sent Minnesota officials a letter today saying ICE would leave the state if Minnesota turns over its voter files to the Trump Administration.
They’re openly using state violence as a bargaining chip to seize election infrastructure.
You have to read this. Firsthand affidavit from one of the women who was there and recording the video. She talks about how Alex Pretti was directing traffic when she arrived. She watched him be killed in front of her. She's afraid to go home, worried she'll be arrested.
DOGE closed offices, killed programs, eliminated jobs, and deprived people of medicine and aid. What it didn’t cut: federal spending. That went up.
Of the agency's top 40 savings claims, 28 were wrong. https://t.co/LzyhKfWd8c
1/ After residency at Mass General Hospital, I reported to Atlanta to meet my fellow CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service Officers.
I have never felt so intimidated by my peers
The best and the brightest, they were star clinicians, had served in disaster zones; MD/PhDs and MSF.
16/ When you hear, "the CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service class was cancelled and the officers fired" I hope this gives you a sense of what has been lost.
Not just the outbreaks that can't be investigated, the surge capacity gone, but our future public health leadership lost
