CREATING A CULTURE OF INNOVATION

All the best inventions in the world start with the same question: 'How can I make this better?'.

Wheels were invented because someone asked ‘How could we transport large amounts of agricultural produce through a long distance faster?’

Online search engines were invented because someone asked if there was an easier way of finding the most popular answer to any question in the world.

Vaccines were invented because someone asked if there was a way we could build immunity against any future deadly virus once and for all.

To leapfrog our culture of innovation, the government will lead initiatives to translate our creativity into tangible solutions.

The problems to mitigate:
a) Who gets which vaccine?
b) Should we provide choice, & how?
c) Administrative costs of managing 6-10 companies.

But these are Good Problems to have. Frankly, they’re Luxury Problems.

Better than “we have no vaccines”.

A vaccine portfolio is the best possible option for 🇲🇾 now. There is no “single best vaccine with unlimited supplies & cheap price”. Nor can 🇲🇾 produce our own (yet).

There are problems to the portfolio approach, of course. But we should mitigate instead of criticise.

6. A diverse vaccine portfolio can be beneficial.

Our vaccines have different ways of working (or “mechanisms of action”), different storage/handling conditions, different delivery schedules & different safety/efficacy profiles. That give us flexibility to deploy.
