Block your time then score each period. I like to block my calendar and the. Score each period to see how I did overall for the day. 1-10 or A to F both work. So, for example, 1:30 blocked for workout - how did I score? An hour for a specific work task? How did I score? I find that when I compete with myself to score the best I can I stay more focused. Low scores, I find, often come from blocks where distraction interrupts.
For people with kids, the 5 am Club should be retitled the 4 am Club. My daughter wakes up at 5:30. So an hour of thinking and work time in the morning means 4am wake up, make coffee, settle in, 4:30-5:30 work.
Shouldn't your restaurant’s farm-to-table story also describe your coffee?
You take pride in the farm-to-table story for your hors d'oeuvres and entrées, but what about your coffee?
I can't blame you. It is tough . . . most coffee passes through a lot of hands before it makes it to the table at your restaurants. Importers, exporters, traders and middlemen – lots of hands are usually involved in moving every coffee bean. Who even knows where your coffee comes from any more?
We can fix this for you.
At Green Coffee Company, we give restaurant owners and groups the ability to tell a consistent farm-to-table story across their menu, including, now, your coffee.
How? We are the farmers. We handpick coffee from the 10 million coffee trees that we own and operate in Colombia. We manage that coffee throughout its life right to your restaurant and your customers.
When your customers ask where you got the best coffee they ever had, you can tell them it came directly from the farmers in Colombia who, every day, handpick the richest coffee in the world.

Why More Hotels Should Differentiate with Outstanding Coffee
When was the last time you stayed at a hotel and said, “You know what I loved? The coffee.”
This is a missed opportunity for hotels. Have you had the experience of staying in a hotel where the linens were so nice that, presumably because so many people wanted them, they were selling them?
Hotels are trying to differentiate in so many ways, but they are ignoring a low-cost, high-impact way to create unique customer value through the coffee they serve. Two-thirds of every one of your hotel guests is going to drink coffee . . . why not make it an exceptional experience?
For just a few pennies more per pound for top-notch coffee, hotels could begin to differentiate themselves by investing where others are lacking or taking shortcuts: their coffee. Those few pennies, spread out over the price of the stay for your guests, would literally be unnoticeable, but the impact would be incredibly substantial -- more value creation for customers at zero additional cost to the hotel.
Why not be great in an area where others are often coming up short or literally turning clients away? Great coffee is a high-probability, low-risk bet for hotels to earn client loyalty.
Don't skimp on the coffee! ☕

The problem with Main Street investing? If you do what everyone else does you will get what everyone else has always gotten. If 9% historical stock market returns are enough for you, then excellent. But if you want higher yields, alternative assets and private companies are the way to go. With those, there is more opportunity for arbitrage -- to see something in an investment that someone else doesn't. Do your diligence, but think differently for uncommon results.

What Should a CEO Focus On?
A CEO must have baseline knowledge in the key areas of their business to be able to adequately hire the best people possible:
1. Product
2. Sales
3. Marketing & lead gen
5. Accounting & finance
6. Leadership, people and motivation
BUT... my advice for any CEO is to as quickly as possible get the capital needed to hire key people for all these positions. Why? If you try to do them all yourself, the output will be mediocre, at best. It is too much.
Do what it takes to get the money to hire. Sell shares in your company to outside investors. Give equity to hire people you can't afford to hire now with just cash. Get creative with bonus structures.
Trying to do it all alone is a recipe for disaster and a sentence to smallness.
Every time I interview someone exceptional in these areas or we bring them into the team, I'm reminded of this lesson--the importance of key functional experts and that my job is to raise the money necessary to afford them.
So what should a CEO focus on -- getting resources to afford human talent where you are only mediocre. Top priority.

Why do investments in emerging market companies often have disproportionate value to risk? Because so many people hear emerging markets and decide to sit on the sidelines and not invest. Less demand then often leads to lower prices for really outstanding businesses with tremendous track records. I speak from experience in Colombia where we have mega-corps consistently paying over 20% annual dividends yet trading at multiples of only 5x earnings (or less). Often, they trade at P/E ratios 80% less than the valuations of their industry peers in developed markets. This is not investment advice, it’s just meant to share the notion that when there is less competition there can be more opportunity. Further, when company track records are strong and prices are low, “risk” or “perceived risk” substantially decreases. The investing goal for active investors is always to get above-market returns with disproportionately low downside risk. Emerging markets, which naturally receive less attention, can provide a better probability of price-to-value dislocation than the highly-followed and analyzed U.S. businesses. Are there too many investment options out there or too few?
Many investors hire advisors to help them sift through the noise. But, advisors will get fired if they lose your money. So what do they do? They give investors the same bland portfolio that is low risk and low returns so that they don’t lose their jobs.
Investors who personally invest their own money often find their options limited. They usually choose between the stock market and run-of-the-mill private market deals, the best of which are saved only for the ultra wealthy.
So it seems for most folks, there are actually too few options. Especially when we start to talk about unique investments with non-boring return profiles.
We are trying to change the status quo. We give our investors the ability to directly invest in the companies that we build and source in our own unique corner of the investing landscape here in Colombia, South America.
We put a lot of skin in the game alongside our investors and go to work in the businesses to do our best to get investors a hard-to-find outcome.
If you would like a current investment opportunity, visit our investor portal to invest in the Green Coffee Company, a pre-IPO company headquartered in the U.S. and Colombia’s largest coffee producer. We built the company on the back of our outstanding 500+ accredited investors from the U.S. and around the world. Our target is a 5x return on investment through an IPO in the U.S. in just a few years. Be part of the team when we ring the opening bell.
