Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but I think the idea that the Celtics are suddenly far removed from championship contention is overstated.
They still have one of the league’s premier organizations, led by a Coach of the Year and an Executive of the Year.
They’ll enter the season with a healthy Jayson Tatum, alongside Finals MVP Jaylen Brown as the foundation of the roster.
Anyone who follows the league closely understands that Boston’s biggest challenge over the last year has been financial, not basketball.
The Celtics have been navigating the restrictive realities of the NBA’s tax and second-apron rules, and the priority has been getting through this period without compromising their longterm flexibility. If they can stay under the apron for one more season, much of that financial pressure resets.
That’s why I wouldn’t be surprised if, around this time next year, Boston is back in aggressive win-now mode.
The organization has already shown a willingness to make bold, franchise-altering moves…as evidenced by the acquisitions of KP and Jrue Holiday.
Once the financial situations reset, the Celtics could very well position themselves to make another significant push and reestablish themselves among the league’s top championship favorites.
Don’t panic.
Once or twice a month, throughout the offseason, i'll be running a mailbag over on the Celtics Chronicle.
Was great diving into some subscriber questions today. Lots of different angles and thought processes involved.

Worked pretty hard on this article - check it out! 🤝
Is AJ Dybantsa the best prospect in this draft class?
Is he even top 2? 👀
My goal was to dig deeper - beyond surface level analysis & really think critically about what order the top prospects should go on a big board 📊
@KeithSmithNBA That’s fair. Worded poorly on my side. I do think there’s been a lot of non-Milwaukee rumor-mill stuff
Houston
Atlanta
NOLA
POR
“Readily available” was poor wording on my part
So, we went from Jaylen Brown potentially being floated in Giannis trade talks...
To teams now "showing interest" in trading for Brown.
Trading Brown for a top-5 guy is one thing. Insinuating he may be readily available on the market is another...
You know we're firmly in the offseason when we're writing about the Pelicans reportedly having interest in Jaylen Brown. I bet they do!
The real question: Does NOLA have enough juicy assets to make Boston pick up the phone? The latest for @celticsblog: https://t.co/jQBY5pCcIm
@zgamer200 I agree. Unfortunately, trading Brown is the easier of the two.
I expect the Cs to remain out of the luxury tax this season, remove the repeater, then go back into it next year.
If that is the case, getting back to 2024 depth will be incredibly tough.
@J_Talks_Hoops Nor me.
Unless they plan on a full reset and see Brown as the guy to lead it long-term. But even then, he's almost 30, so they'd have to believe in a rapid rebuild/re-tooling.
I don't get it.
Back from a short vacation to clear my head and reset. I have a LOT of content coming for you this month and into July:

Before the Cavs settled with James Harden at the deadline, they reached out to the Celtics and Blazers for Derrick White or Jrue Holiday, per @ChrisFedor.
Cleveland passed up on Holiday because they decided he doesn’t provide enough offense in the backcourt with Mitchell. 😳
Let’s goooo!!!! So excited to be in on the ground floor of an emerging platform like BZZR. Myself, and the rest of the @NoCeilingsNBA crew, can’t wait to see it take off and continue growing just as we have over the years! Except this one will be even quicker 👀
@ParquetPride17 I'm not against adding Turner. Not for it to the point where I think it should be their primary goal.
I do agree that Boston could be an ideal spot for him, though.
Assuming White is the makeweight in a trade, rotation could look like
(insert point guard)
Jaylen Brown
Trey Murphy
Jayson Tatum
(Insert upgrade for Neemy) or Neemy
Lots of size in that lineup.
Minimum of 4 decision-makers on the floor to begin games
Boston and OKC are potential landing spots for Trey Murphy III, per @BillSimmons
“We assume he’s probably going to get traded over the next three weeks. I think Boston is a possibility. We thought whoever lost this matchup (Spurs and Thunder) is a possibility. You have two to three weeks to trade for someone like that.”
(h/t @garlandgillen )
@bucknersrevenge This is interesting, I;m gonna plug this into a trade machine and see what I think when I see how it looks on paper.
Still not sure Murphy is worth giving up JB, but it feels like that would be the price...
Could the Celtics trade for Trey Murphy? If so, what would could a trade package look like?
Why wouldn't the Pels want top dollar for one of their young stars? Why would they trade him?
