Whenever I speak to someone about marketing at @thirdweb, they’re always surprised to hear we’ve never had more than 6 people working on it.

We’ve gone from 0 → 60k monthly devs and 0 → millions ARR whilst keeping the team the size of a 5-a-side squad.

Output rarely scales in proportion with headcount — here’s a few thoughts on how we do it:

◆ Bring great production in house. My first hire is always a great designer, and then a great video editor. Being able to produce great content without relying on external parties is an instant superpower.

◆ Make growth everyone’s problem. It should be a core pillar of the company culture. Especially with a technical product, your engineers are usually your best marketers - but it’s not their priority and it won’t be unless you make it. Make everyone feel the importance of growth and give them the tools to create content that fuels the machine.

◆ Focus. It’s incredibly easy to spend time on stuff that doesn’t matter. Sponsoring every hackathon and appearing at every event. Choose one or two to show up in a big way and say no to the rest. The highest leverage growth is always done at the keyboard.

◆ AI. Obviously, but now more than ever. We’ve built a number of workflows that make content creation instant - the trick is to have models trained on our old content which kills hallucinations or shitty copy.
