Call yourself a “critical geographer” yet fail to *act* critically when your colleagues need you? Think the #UCUstrike doesn’t apply to you?
My new journal is just for you! ‘Apolitical Geography’ offers an uncritical space for such #geographers to wallow in their hypocrisy:
Fellow scabs! I am humbled and thrilled 🙏 to be the #KeyNote at the upcoming 'Negotiating Scab Subjectivities' workshop. Join me in #Davos to discuss how YOU can benefit from *not* showing solidarity with the #UCUstrike:
Please cascade to relevant colleagues
#NoneOfUSS
Dear colleagues,
Student Experience should *always* be placed above the ability to stay alive during #COVID19. Sure, death is “bad”, but risking slightly reduced student satisfaction scores from implementing *basic* public health measures is far worse.
Yours,
Senior Management

I now throw open the challenge to the our hallowed institutions of the @RGS_IBGhe and the @theAAG - how can we ensure that M&S-style excellence, privilege, whiteness and pedigree be protected within our own sacred walls and within our discipline of #geography?
THREAD:
1/5 I have been quiet for a while, focussed on the brave and necessary struggle to make academia the precarious and anxiety-ridden place that makes for the most productive work. But I reappear, because I have found myself a new comrade: Prof. Gill Valentine @sheffielduni
4/5
Gill Valentine is more than a manager - she is also a 'diversity champion' who aims to make the university a 'welcoming environment' - again like M&S, with aisles wide enough to contain our egos, and prices high enough to maintain our exclusivity. https://t.co/nPeef48l1b
New: Nancy Rothwell has just admitted she lied on National TV last night when she claimed she had been in contact Zac, a student who was the victim of a racial profiling and assault by @OfficialUoM security.
Shame on Nancy. Shame on UoM.
Solidarity to Zac.
I haven't tweeted for a while - I find public scrutiny and accountability to be toxic concepts.
But I tweet forth today my praise for Nancy Rothwell @OfficialUoM . Nancy you have showed how VCs can be more than managers - but also rent-extractors, security guards, jailors!
Staff upset with me for endangering their health. They shouldnt be! With students settled & rent paid, we'll then lock it down, incarcerating them in halls. Then we'll consider health and safety.
Relax. We got this. We've been planning it for months

I am so sorry. You might be aware that I formerly marketed as a radical geographer so I can help here. I am happy to theorise this situation - but do no more than that.
You have my sincerest sympathies, my kind words, my inaction, my secret contempt.
@sussexucu#geography
On behalf of senior management, I sincerely hope no one decides to JOIN A UNION at this uncertain time. This will make our task of undermining working conditions or sacking you *much* more difficult.
Please cascade neoliberally,
Your VC
As a #geographer of proven moral agility, I couldn’t have put this better myself:
“fixed-term appointments are no longer an apprenticeship but part of a business model that accepts staff insecurity as a necessary condition of HR “agility””
