THE MATRIX — WHAT "THERE IS NO SPOON" REALLY MEANS

One of the deepest scenes in The Matrix lasts only a few moments.

Neo watches a child apparently bend a spoon with his mind.

He tries to understand how.

But the child gives him the real lesson:

“Do not try and bend the spoon. That’s impossible.”

Then comes the line that changes everything:

“There is no spoon.”

Most people interpret this as: Reality isn’t real.

I think it goes much deeper.

The lesson isn’t about bending metal.

It’s about bending perception.

Because the moment Neo tries to force the spoon to change, he is still accepting the spoon as something fixed, external and separate from himself.

He is fighting reality from inside the assumptions that created his limitation.

And this is exactly what we do in life.

We try to bend the relationship.

Bend the circumstances.

Bend other people.

Bend the future.

Bend reality until it finally gives us what we want.

But consciousness works differently.

Sometimes the greatest transformation doesn’t begin when you change what you’re looking at.

It begins when you change the consciousness looking.

Think about this.

Your experience of reality is never reality untouched.

Your brain is constantly filtering enormous amounts of information through memory, expectation, emotion, belief, identity and attention.

So you don’t simply experience the world.

You experience a model of the world constructed through consciousness.

That is where the spoon becomes profound.

The spoon represents everything you have unconsciously declared to be fixed:

“This is who I am.”

“This is what is possible.”

“People like me can’t do that.”

“My past determines my future.”

“Reality works this way and no other way.”

Those are your spoons.

And most of your life is spent trying to bend them.

But awakening begins when you investigate the one who decided they were solid in the first place.

Maybe the prison isn’t always the circumstance.

Maybe sometimes it’s the interpretation of the circumstance.

Maybe the wall isn’t always outside you.

Maybe part of the wall is the belief that the wall cannot be crossed.

This doesn’t mean physical reality disappears because you think differently.

It means something far more useful:

Your relationship to reality determines which possibilities you can perceive, pursue and embody.

Two people can stand inside nearly identical circumstances and inhabit completely different worlds.

One sees rejection.

Another sees redirection.

One sees uncertainty.

Another sees possibility.

One sees failure.

Another sees information.

The external event may be identical.

The consciousness interpreting it is not.

And when consciousness changes, behavior changes.

When behavior changes, choices change.

When choices change, trajectories change.

And suddenly the reality that once appeared immovable begins to move.

This is where The Matrix becomes more than science fiction.

Rumi was not originally a romantic poet in the modern sense. He was a respected Islamic scholar, theologian, and teacher living in Konya, then part of the Seljuk Empire. His life changed profoundly around 1244 when he met Shams Tabrizi, a wandering mystic who challenged Rumi’s intellectual approach to religion and encouraged him to pursue a more personal, experiential spirituality centered on divine love.

The two developed an intense spiritual friendship that transformed Rumi’s worldview and inspired much of his later poetry. When Shams mysteriously disappeared, possibly amid resentment or jealousy from those around Rumi, the loss devastated him. Rumi channeled his grief into poetry, often writing as though speaking directly to Shams. His later works produced thousands of lyrical poems and tens of thousands of lines exploring love, loss, spiritual union, and the search for meaning.

The idea behind this proverb comes most clearly from the writings of Zhuangzi, one of the central thinkers of Daoism in the 4th century BCE.

In the Zhuangzi, a famous story tells of a large, twisted tree that carpenters ignore because its wood is unsuitable for construction. Precisely because it is considered “useless,” the tree is never cut down and survives to live out its natural life.

Zhuangzi uses the tree as a metaphor for human life. In Daoist thought, being “useful” by conventional standards can make a person vulnerable to exploitation, control, and exhaustion. Those who are unconventional, overlooked, or unwilling to fit society’s expectations may instead preserve their freedom and live on their own terms.

Siddhartha's Victory Over Mara's Armies ☸️

As recorded in The Padhana Sutta, from Khuddaka Nikaya scripture of The Pali Canon, Before the dawn of His Enlightenment beside the Neranjara River, Mara - The Evil One approached the striving Bodhisattva Siddhartha. He did not arrive first with thunder, but with words that sounded almost compassionate:

"You are near death. Live, and perform meritorious deeds. The path of striving towards enlightenment is too difficult.", said The Evil One.

Yet The Buddha-to-be recognised the hidden voice of negligence.

He named Mara's armies one by one:

- Sensual desire,
- Discontent,
- Hunger and thirst,
- Craving,
- Laziness,
- Fear,
- Doubt,
- Stubbornness,
- The hunger for gain and honour,
- Self-praise, and contempt for others.

These forces still march through the human heart. Mara is not encountered only in ancient stories; he appears whenever Fear whispers, "Turn back," Craving says, "Just once more," or Pride asks to be admired.

The Bodhisattva Siddhartha answered not with anger, but with immovable resolve.

Faith was His strength, mindfulness His guard, concentration His steadiness, and wisdom His weapon. He vowed to break Mara's army as a stone shatters an unbaked clay bowl.

Mara The Evil One could find no opening in that awakened vigilance. At last, sorrowful and defeated, his lute fell from his hands.

Liberation begins wherever the heart stops obeying its oldest fears. 🙏

The ancient lunar priestesses were called virgins. "Virgin" doesn't mean a woman who never had sex with a man like the church says today.

The Latin word "virgin" comes from the root "vir" meaning strength, power, powerful woman.. It applied to the goddesses who were called virgins not because of their purity, but because of their vigor, because of their independence.

Many women like Marie, Isis, Ishtar, Diana, Astarté, were called virgins, which was not sexual reference...
And all the great cultural heroes of the past, mythical or historical, were born of virgin mothers or powerful mothers: Osiris, Marduk, Gilgamesh, Buddha, Dionysus, Jesus; all were affirmed as children of the Great Mother, because their power comes from her.

But religions, when they ceased to be spiritual and became dogmas, count differently, distorted.. And everyone has been wondering how a "virgin" can get pregnant...

Christians could not conceive the Virgin Mary as a woman not dependent on man, that is, the notion that woman was born from man's rib, then, they invented the idea of "no sin conceived" to denigrate sexuality and especially to those women who do not They were submitting to the patriarchy.
Religions have distorted the meaning in sexually pure, caste, never touched.

When Jeanne d'Arc, with her witch associations, called herself La Pucelle d'Orléans, "the young," "the Virgin," the word retained part of its original pagan meaning of a strong and harmonious woman.

And that's what is needed today, a meeting between man and woman without submission, but, the church, conservatives, oppose it.

We must reclaim the Great Mother, which is the Pachamama or Cosmic Mother, as life-giver, who together with Pachakamak or Cosmic Father, as life-force, contain, sustain and maintain existence. You have to get out of religions and atheisms to regain spirituality.
