How can some tiny islands block the entire coast of Turkey? Islands hundreds of km from mainland Greece. The interesting point is that an island of just 9.1 km², located right off the Turkish coast, can, under Greece’s interpretation of international law, generate rights that affect a large part of the eastern Mediterranean. Make it make sense.
@iosif_lazaridis The Hague won’t have a say in this. Euro politicians have shown how they feel about the matter, even without a court ruling. And your answer is to let a court in The Hague decide? Absolutely ridiculous. Each nation gets what it deserves, one way or the other.
Under international law (UNCLOS), islands can generate their own Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). But that doesn’t automatically give them 200 miles of exclusive sea in every direction.
Overlapping claims must be negotiated or legally settled. An island’s impact on maritime boundaries can also be limited.

@neoaegean Greeks are so used to getting shit for free from the “west”? Just look at the map with neutral glasses. How can some islands block the entire Aegean coast of Turkey? Islands hundreds of km from mainland Greece. Make it make sense.
Big strategic win for Türkiye 🇹🇷 in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Eastern Libya’s parliament just unanimously approved the 2019 maritime delimitation deal with Ankara and lifted the 2020 boycott. This strengthens mutual rights and energy cooperation between two sovereign states.
While Brussels calls it “null and void” and backs Greece/Cyprus, two countries just advanced their interests under international law and equity.
