JK Rowling offers to pay legal costs for female prisoner sexually assaulted by trans woman inmate in Scottish jail's female wing

The Harry Potter author said she will fund any lawsuit via her legal aid fund for women, stating "The Scottish government is responsible for this sexual assault" after the Supreme Court ruled on single-sex spaces.

The alleged attacker is Alexandra Stewart, 38, previously known as Alan Baker, who was convicted in 2013 of stabbing a man to death 16 times.

Stewart, born male, changed gender after conviction and has been held in the female estate at HMP Greenock since 2016, including receiving tracheal shave surgery in prison.

The assault is said to have happened in the hairdressing salon of the female-only wing, with Stewart now arrested and charged.
