Ethiopia is steadily advancing toward its ambitious coffee export target.
We planned to export 600,000 metric tons and generate USD 3 billion this fiscal year. In just seven months, we have already exported 217,000 tons, earning USD 1.47 billion.
Today, I held a constructive dialogue with coffee exporters and suppliers on strengthening a modern, data driven and competitive coffee marketing system anchored in transparency, efficiency and sustainability.
As we enhance quality, traceability and value addition, our goal is clear: better returns for farmers, expanded markets for exporters and a stronger global position for Ethiopia as a trusted coffee origin.
On this historic Victory of Adwa, we honor the sovereignty secured by our forefathers by building economic strength and food sovereignty for our nation.

Today, I had a warm and constructive discussion with H.E. Dr. Afkar Nadhim Ali Al-Farsi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman, to Ethiopia.
Our conversation was guided by a shared belief that agriculture can serve as a strong bridge between our two nations. We explored ways to increase Ethiopia’s exports of meat, coffee, and sesame to the Sultanate of Oman by improving both quality and volume, ensuring our farmers and exporters benefit from expanded market opportunities.
We also discussed knowledge exchange in date palm production, where Oman has valuable experience, as well as cooperation in agricultural input supply to further strengthen productivity and value chains.
It is always encouraging to see partnerships built not only on trade but also on trust, learning, and long term vision.
Ethiopia and the Sultanate of Oman will continue working together for mutual prosperity and sustainable agricultural growth. 🇪🇹🤝🇴🇲

Ethiopia’s Cities Are Growing Food, Jobs, and the Future
Ethiopia is achieving a lot in urban agriculture and we are taking that progress to the next level.
With the launch of our Urban Agriculture Development Strategy, we are scaling what already works and turning it into a clear national direction. Across our cities, urban agriculture is improving food availability, creating jobs, stabilizing markets, and making our neighborhoods greener and healthier.
This strategy brings food production closer to people. It promotes modern and climate smart farming, value addition, and strong market linkages so cities contribute meaningfully to food and nutrition security while opening new opportunities for youth and women.
Urban agriculture is no longer informal or incidental. It is becoming organized, productive, and strategic, supporting livelihoods, reducing waste, and building more resilient cities.
Ethiopia’s cities are not just growing. They are producing, innovating, and feeding the future.

Mechanizing Ethiopia’s future, Empowering our farmers.
Agriculture feeds our nation, but high post-harvest losses and productivity gaps hold us back. That is why we are advancing the National Agricultural Mechanization Strategy (2026–2035).
Our focus is simple and clear:
✔️ Better tools for farmers
✔️ Fewer losses after harvest
✔️ Modern livestock and irrigation systems
✔️ Smart farming where it adds value
✔️ Strong private-sector participation
Mechanization is not about machines alone.
It is about people, productivity, dignity, and food security.
The transformation is underway. 🇪🇹

Ethiopia’s Meat Exports to Qatar Are Resuming — Timely Breakthrough Ahead of Holy Ramadan
Today, I held a productive discussion with H.E. Saad Mubarak Saad Al-Jafali Al-Naimi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Ethiopia.
We reached a shared understanding to resume Ethiopia’s meat exports to Qatar, which had been interrupted in recent months, and agreed on the necessary arrangements to enable large-scale exports starting from the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. This is a timely and strategic step that will strengthen Ethiopia’s livestock export value chain, generate foreign exchange, and re-open an important market in the Gulf region.
Our discussion further focused on deepening cooperation in agricultural trade, agricultural input supply, the promotion of water-efficient agricultural technologies suitable for arid and semi-arid areas, and expanding Qatari investment in Ethiopia’s agriculture sector. These engagements reaffirm our shared commitment to building a strong, mutually beneficial, and sustainable agricultural partnership.

Today, I had a very fruitful discussion with H.E. Ambassador Ajmad Almoumani, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Ethiopia, focused on deepening and elevating the bilateral relationship between our two countries in the agriculture sector.
Our discussion centered on establishing a strategic partnership in agricultural input supply, alongside significantly increasing the volume of Ethiopian agricultural commodities including coffee, flowers, meat, and live animals exported to Jordan.
We also explored avenues for knowledge and expertise exchange, particularly in efficient irrigation technologies suitable for arid and semi-arid environments, an area where Jordan has valuable experience.
Furthermore, we discussed practical pathways to attract increased Jordanian investment into Ethiopia’s agricultural sector, strengthening private sector engagement and supporting sustainable growth.
Today, I had a fruitful discussion with the renowned Ethiopian scientist Gebisa Ejeta on the National Sorghum Development Initiative, which enters implementation this year.
This flagship five-year program focuses on scaling up drought- and disease-resilient sorghum varieties, boosting productivity, strengthening food security, supplying industrial raw materials, and improving modern animal feed systems.
The initiative will be implemented in 116 sorghum-suitable woredas, directly benefiting millions of farmers nationwide.
I am encouraged by Professor Gebisa’s strong commitment to provide technical leadership in sorghum research and to support coordination with development partners to ensure successful delivery.
Sorghum is not just a crop — it is a strategic pillar for resilience, nutrition, and agro-industrial growth.
