My latest blog piece. It's been awhile since I've written, but here it is. The truth of today.

"How did I get to this point?

Being a long-term, 24/7 carer and then having it end at the passing of my precious son was like being dropped off a cliff’s edge in countless ways. Emotionally, physically, financially, spiritually. And as I hit the bottom of the abyss after being dropped off of that cliff’s edge high above, I shattered. I’ve scrambled to pick up all of the shards around me – those pieces of myself now broken – but it’s as if I can’t remember how they all fit back together. In fact, I’m not sure they ever will again because there are simply pieces missing now."

Neighbour man just came to my door, yelled & cussed at me, ending by calling me an "ignorant c*nt" Sitting here crying & shaking. It's Sunday night, 8pm, dark outside. I heard firecracker pops going off in front of my house. Those scare my dog terribly. (turned out they are those snap pop things you throw down to pop). I opened my door, not able to see who was doing it, just saying 'hey guys can you do that in your garden or something?' Kid replies back they aren't allowed to. I just said 'well could you please not do it right in front of my house?' and I went back in. Next thing I know the father is banging at my door. I wasn't sure which kids it was until he came and pointed at their house. I like his kids & am always nice to them (of course). I told him that but it didn't matter. I got called all kinds of names, told to fk off, etc. I said he was being a very rude man. He agreed and then said I was an ignorant c*nt. I'm trying to calm down but my God. He's a big guy, 20 yrs younger than I am, and to hurl such verbal abuse at my door at night is extremely intimidating. What's wrong with people? 😢

I am actually afraid of our health system. Afraid.

And by the way, this whole 'tea and toast' thing needs to get in the bin. No nutritional value at all. How about feeding patients healthy food? It's 2026.

Hospital patients were given only tea and toast over a period of 24 hours, and had meals taken away untouched because nobody helped them eat, according to complaints submitted to the Health Information and Quality Authority (Hiqa).

Visitors to one patient said her food trays were often left untouched and she appeared very thirsty. They feared nobody was monitoring her food or fluid intake or encouraging her to eat, “even though her recovery requires good nutrition”.
