The Bible commands us to fear God.

It also says perfect love casts out fear.

Most people quietly resolve that tension by deciding "fear" just means "respect," a polite word for being impressed.

But there's a verse that makes that impossible, because it says God's forgiveness is the reason He is feared.

The Wedding at Cana

In John chapter 2, Jesus performs His first recorded miracle, and it is not what anyone would expect from the Son of God announcing Himself to the world. Not a healing. Not a raising of the dead. Not a confrontation with demons or a display of power before crowds. It happens quietly, at a wedding, in a small village called Cana in Galilee, and almost no one at the feast even knew it had occurred.

To understand why this miracle matters, you have to understand the wedding itself. In first-century Jewish culture, a wedding was not a single afternoon. It was a feast that could last seven days, the responsibility of the groom's family, and running out of provisions, especially wine, was not a minor inconvenience. It was a public disgrace that could follow a family for years. Hospitality was a matter of honor in that world, and to fail your guests was to shame yourself before your entire community.

That is exactly what happens. The wine runs out. Mary, the mother of Jesus, brings the problem to Him directly. His response is striking: "Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come." It sounds almost like a refusal, but Mary does not treat it as one. She turns to the servants and says simply, "Do whatever He tells you." It is the last recorded sentence of Mary in the Gospels, and it functions as an instruction to every reader since: whatever He says, do it.

Now consider what Jesus asks for. Six stone water jars stood nearby, and John tells us exactly what they were for: the Jewish rites of purification. These were not ordinary household jars. Stone was specifically used for ceremonial washing because, under Jewish law, stone vessels could not become ritually unclean the way clay ones could. These jars held the water people used to wash before meals, in keeping with the purity laws. This detail is not incidental. Jesus takes the water set aside for ritual cleansing, the old system, and turns it into wine, the substance of celebration and covenant. The vessels of the old law of external washing become the source of something new.

The scale is worth pausing on. John records that each jar held twenty to thirty gallons. Six jars, filled to the brim at Jesus' instruction. That is somewhere between 120 and 180 gallons of wine, an almost absurd abundance for a village wedding, far beyond what any gathering could reasonably drink. The miracle is not modest. It is lavish, overflowing, more than enough, which is itself a signal of what kind of King had just arrived among them.

Then comes the detail that seals it as unmistakably real to everyone present. The master of the banquet, who had no idea what had happened, tastes the wine and calls the bridegroom aside, confused. Custom, he says, was to serve the good wine first and bring out the inferior wine after the guests had drunk freely and their palates were dulled. But here, the best wine had been saved for last. He has no explanation. He does not know the servants filled those jars with plain water moments earlier. He only knows the wine in his cup is the finest he has tasted all night.

John closes the account with a single line carrying enormous theological weight: "This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him." Not merely a miracle. A sign, John's word for an act that points beyond itself to who Jesus truly is. His glory, hidden in ordinary flesh, breaks through for a moment at an obscure village wedding, and the men who would go on to build the church see it and believe.

There is also a striking geography to this event. Cana's exact location has been debated by scholars for centuries, with two main candidate sites in Galilee, and excavations at both have uncovered first-century Jewish villages with stone vessels of the very kind John describes, used precisely for the purification customs the Gospel names. The physical world it describes, small Galilean villages keeping the purity laws with stone jars, matches what archaeology has found on the ground.

The theology beneath the story runs deep. Throughout Scripture, wine is tied to joy, to covenant, to the feast of the Kingdom of God. The prophets pictured the coming Messianic age as a banquet with wine flowing in abundance. By choosing a wedding as the place to first reveal His glory, and wine as the substance of that revelation, Jesus was making a claim that would have struck any first-century Jew listening to this account: the long-promised feast, the joy of God's coming Kingdom, had arrived, and He was the bridegroom bringing it. It is no accident that the Bible opens with a wedding in a garden and closes with the wedding feast of the Lamb in Revelation. Cana stands at the center of that story, the moment ordinary water becomes the wine of a new covenant.

To the world, this looks like a party trick, an interesting story about water and wine, nothing more. But look at what is actually happening beneath the surface. The old system of external washing, the stone jars of the law, becomes the wine of new joy at Jesus' word. Abundance beyond what anyone could ask. The best saved for last. This is who He is. Not a rationed, reluctant God, but One who fills empty jars to the brim and turns the ordinary into more than anyone hoped for.

Whatever is empty in your life, whatever has run dry, bring it to Him. Do whatever He tells you. He is still in the business of turning water into wine.

Jesus is the true Bridegroom, and His joy has no end. Thank You, Jesus.

Jesus died at 33. The human spine has 33 vertebrae. The same structure that holds us up is the same number of years He held this Earth.

We have 12 ribs on each side. 12 disciples. 12 tribes of Israel. God built His design into our bones. He wrote Heaven into our anatomy.

The vagus nerve runs from your brain to your heart and gut. It calms storms inside the body. It looks just like a cross. That’s the power source running through us. Every time your body heals, every time your heart slows in prayer, every time peace shows up when it shouldn’t…that’s Him.

Jesus rose on the third day. Science tells us that when you fast for 3 days, your body starts regenerating. Old cells die. New ones are born. Healing begins. Your body literally resurrects itself. That’s not coincidence. That’s design.

And it keeps going.

Your heart has an electrical rhythm. Your brain lights up when you pray. Tears contain different chemicals depending on if you're crying from joy or grief. The blood speaks. The bones store memory. The body worships whether you realize it or not.

We are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are walking prophecy. Walking tabernacles. Dust and divinity in one.

God didn’t just create you. He carved Himself into you.

You don’t need to look far to find Him. You just need to look inward. He’s been in the design since the beginning.

Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn’t know this. It’s easy to check out, if you don’t believe it. Be sure and show it to your family and friends. They need a little history lesson on what’s what and it doesn’t matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are FACTS.
Up until the 1980's, Social Security cards expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes.
Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the "NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION" message was removed.
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. His promises are in black, with updates in brackets.
1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary [No longer voluntary],
2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program [Now 7.65% on the first $90,000, and 15% on the first $90,000 if you’re self-employed],
3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year [No longer tax deductible],
4.) That the money the participants put into the independent ‘Trust Fund’ rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program [Under Johnson the money was moved to the General Fund and spent], and
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income [Under Clinton & Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be taxed].
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month — and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to ‘put away’ — you may be interested in the following:
Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent ‘Trust Fund’ and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate.
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.
Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the ‘tie-breaking’ deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?
A: That’s right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!
Now, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!
And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it! If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, though. Some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn’t so — but it’s worth a try.

It's not enough to just look at Iran and ask, "Why can't we just make a deal and move on?" That may have worked for other enemies like North Korea. They wanted stability and economic prosperity and feared death, just like us. So, Mutually Assured Destruction worked.

Intellectually - no. Because he cannot accept the American Constitution since it is based on Biblical principles and he believes the Bible to be corrupt.

Philosophically - no. Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran do not allow freedom of religion and expression. Democracy and Islam cannot co-exist. Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic.

Spiritually - no. Because when we declare 'one nation under God,' The Christian's God is loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to as Heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in the Quran's 99 excellent names. Therefore, after much study and deliberation...

Perhaps we should be very suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this country.

They obviously cannot be both 'good' Muslims and 'good' Americans. Call it what you wish, it's still the truth. You had better believe it.

The more who understand this, the better it will be for our country and our future.

In the late 1800s, a brilliant archaeologist named Sir William Ramsay set out across Asia Minor with a firm conviction: the book of Acts was worthless as history. He had been trained in the skeptical scholarship of his day, which held that Acts was written long after the events, by an author who knew little of the geography, politics, or officials of the first-century Roman world. Ramsay expected his fieldwork to expose its errors.

Acts is a book dense with specific claims. It names cities and provinces, and it uses precise titles for local officials, titles that varied confusingly from region to region and changed over time. It calls the leaders of Thessalonica "politarchs," an unusual term. It gives Publius on Malta the title "chief man of the island." It calls Gallio in Corinth a proconsul. Any one of these was an easy place for a distant, ill-informed writer to slip.

Ramsay checked them against the inscriptions and ruins on the ground. And one by one, they proved correct. The odd title "politarch," found nowhere in classical literature, turned up in inscriptions from Thessalonica. The provincial boundaries matched. The officials' ranks were accurate for the exact time and place. The author of Acts had not blundered; he had been extraordinarily precise.

Ramsay's conviction collapsed under the weight of his own evidence. He came to regard the writer of Acts as a historian of the first rank, accurate even in the smallest details. The man who set out to discredit the New Testament spent his life defending its reliability instead.

To the world, the New Testament is legend written by the credulous. But a skeptic who went looking for its mistakes found instead a document so precise it could serve as a guide to the ancient world.

The truth does not fear investigation. It invites it. Examine the claims of Christ honestly, and they will hold. Bring Him your doubts, your questions, your hardest scrutiny. He is not afraid of them.

Jesus is the Truth. Thank You, Jesus.
