@AnneDornPhilly This has been a talking point at my school. The enrollment system has under enrolled smaller schools and larger magnet schools are allowed to over enroll. There is a story there

@Dave_Becker_@PHLschools I should note it’s not an excuse. It’s simply the reality. Ultimately our students lose. But, it must force us to ask bigger questions about why this is happening
@Dave_Becker_@PHLschools Parental leave? Similar thing happened when I went out on leave this year. These are systemic problems- there are no teachers or substitutes
@ms_witherell@teacher2teacher Love, love, love this! I find myself using this word a lot even pre-pandemic. Grace is so important in school communities. Do you have thoughts about how you will approach this with kids this year?
@melshep34@teacher2teacher I am also curious about how you establish comfort level to know they can ask. It may be helpful for some of the colleagues I collaborate with in general education.
@LaMenephee@melshep34@teacher2teacher I think this is a great point! Framing is so important. What may feel like a strict or intimidating teacher can be framed as opportunity to practice!
@teacher2teacher A5: regular communication with parents. I am thinking about holding a weekly office hours for parents to schedule a time. Supporting parents is a way of supporting our kids too
@teacher2teacher A3: I think personal touches can go a long way. Follow up is crucial. Even if it’s a quick personal note to say hi, thanks for showing up today!
@teacher2teacher A2: start class with doing something not related to academics. Can use a question wheel, etc. Something to build community and share a human connection
@teacher2teacher@ROAR84mcclure@LaMenephee @BarbaraGruener Hello colleagues, I work with kids grades 9-12 as a special education teacher. My students are fully included and I run a resource room. Working mostly with students who have ASD, OHI or SLD
