This life is just funny anyhow. This is a country’s president in Jail for drug trafficking related charges in America. There is an African president currently begging same America not to release his own records of drug trafficking related case and America is agreeing.
The deal must be very massive or they don’t rate Africans.
My mother is part of a monthly meeting where she contributes 220,000 naira every month (25th).
Last week she called to say she could only raise 100,000 naira. I promised to send her the remaining 120,000 naira and fulfilled that promise yesterday.
This morning she called in full celebration mode. My father had paid the full amount as a belated birthday gift. Her birthday was in July.
I rejoiced with her and said, "Mummy, since Daddy already paid for you, could you please send back my money? Keep 20k for yourself and send back 100k."
She ended the call immediately.
She has refused to pick up since then.
Women and money. 😂😂😂
Above all, love God.
I would summarize Nigerian political corruption across three regimes. Two of them fall within the democratic era that started in 1999, up to the current regime.
The Obasanjo, PDP and Goodluck Jonathan era had a particular style of corruption: steal whatever you can, but share. So, if you steal ₦200 million, keep ₦50 million for yourself and share the remaining ₦150 million. Return whatever you can, in whatever form or through whatever means. That was the system. Show love.
That is also why many of the people who entered positions of power during those years, from the police and military to the civil service, who are still there today. Many of them are people who understand and operate within that bribery system. Bribe someone, steal what you want, give a percentage, bribe someone else, and everyone is fine.
Then came the APC and Buhari era. They were the procurement boys.
They could wake up one morning and decide that the government needed to buy firefighting trucks, like in cases involving people such as Harri sharry Potter Sidika, and billions could disappear without the trucks even being properly bought. One pen could somehow cost billions.
Everything became procurement. If you wanted something fixed, there had to be procurement money attached to it before anyone was interested. Even when people were dying, the conversation was about what needed to be purchased.
Insecurity? We need to buy new guns.
Bad roads? We need to buy new tractors.
Fire outbreaks? We need new firefighting trucks.
Electricity? Another procurement process.
That was how the money was stolen. Procurement became the system.
This current regime operates differently. They are the Omonile boys. They want their hands in every single pie.
It does not matter whether it is what a local trader is selling in a market for ten naira or a major deal worth $100 billion. They want a piece of it. Legitimate or illegitimate. Good or bad. Big or small. Just put them in it.
That is how they operate.
This is how corruption works in Nigeria, and it helps explain why things remain largely the same. Every new regime comes with its own style of corruption.
For a while now, I have been talking about how Northern governors have been sponsoring mass weddings of poor and uneducated people and how they have been giving birth indiscriminately.
And I realized that I have not been getting any significant backlash from Muslims, especially.
Including the educated ones amongst them.
Something tells me that it's their innate and long term plan.
The muslim world seeks to dominate the Christian world and establish Muslim governance, religion and rules.
This is also happening in the western societies.
They support wokeism but are not woke.
They want to support governments where Christians are allowed to be liberal and woke, but they're preserving their religion and guarding their followers against it.
The Christian world thinks that they're wise and more exposed than the Muslim world.
We will see what happens in the next 30 to 50 years.
End.
Another day, another “fake agency.” There are all sorts of bodies that have offices in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Federal Secretariat.
The one that recently found its way into the federal budget was rare. Many don’t need to go that far. They just need a government-sounding name, a government-looking logo and an SGF address to raise funds from all over the world.
When I was in government, one was visiting me every other month to offer free foreign trips for me and my staff, on something to do with mentorship. He showed me how he had taken several public servants to different countries in the past.
I started finding ways to be too busy to progress the conversations when I invited him to present to my full management team and he just wasn’t able to clearly explain to us what his organisation was, who set it up, where it gets its funding from and so on.
Interestingly, my civil servants, who would always welcome a foreign trip, never tried to convince me. They probably already knew what I could only sense, being new at the time - that it was advanced 419! After a while, they stopped offering him appointments to see me and he melted away.
Somebody really needs to sort out the Office of the SGF.
