Dear LAWMA,

It has been over 4 weeks since waste was collected at the Sanyaolu street axis, in Old Oko-Oba, Agege.

Residents who can afford to have been forced to buy extra waste bins due to the overflow. For context, waste used to be collected every Monday.

Please fix.

LAWMA Steps Up Waste Evacuation Efforts Across Lagos

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has reassured residents that ongoing measures are being implemented to improve waste evacuation and environmental sanitation across the state.

The Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, stated that the government is addressing current operational challenges through immediate and long-term interventions. These include improving access to disposal facilities, optimising Transfer Loading Stations, deploying additional waste collection trucks, and strengthening enforcement against indiscriminate waste disposal.

He noted that over 418,500 tonnes of waste were processed in May 2026 despite operational challenges, while about 3,000 waste blackspots are being cleared daily. He also highlighted ongoing investments in recycling, waste diversion, and new waste management infrastructure aimed at improving service delivery and creating a cleaner, healthier Lagos.

LAWMA urged residents to patronise approved PSP operators, dispose of waste responsibly, and support government efforts to maintain a sustainable environment. The Authority assured residents that service delivery will continue to improve as the various interventions take effect.
