Integrated Properties, the managers of the Afreximbank Trade Centre being built in Harare, recently reported that “market response has been very positive,” judging by enquiries from potential tenants.
The building will house Afreximbank’s Southern African Regional Office, a hotel, conference centre, retail and office space.
Many office buildings in central Harare are struggling to secure quality tenants as businesses migrate to suburban office parks to escape the CBD’s congestion and decay.

HARARE – Sustainable health financing has become one of the most pressing challenges for developing countries as governments grapple with rising healthcare costs, growing populations and shrinking fiscal space, making the mobilisation of domestic resources critical to achieving Universal Health Coverage and improving health outcomes.
Against this backdrop, policymakers, development partners and health experts from across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) convened for a High-Level Roundtable on Sustainable Health Financing aimed at strengthening domestic resource mobilisation and accelerating investment in sexual and reproductive health, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health.
Welcoming delegates to the roundtable dinner, the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Hon. Prof. Mthuli Ncube, said the gathering provided an opportunity to build partnerships, exchange ideas and foster collaboration in a relaxed setting, where meaningful conversations can inspire practical solutions.
Hon. Prof. Mthuli Ncube acknowledged that while fiscal space remains constrained across the region, health financing is not a cost to be managed but an investment in dignity, productivity, human capital and long-term economic development.
The Minister stressed that achieving Universal Health Coverage requires stronger domestic resource mobilisation, efficient use of available resources and strategic partnerships aligned with national priorities and capable of delivering lasting impact.
Hon. Prof. Mthuli Ncube reaffirmed the importance of African-led solutions, citing the Abuja Declaration, the Africa Health Strategy, the Africa Scorecard on Domestic Financing for Health and the AU Health Financing Framework as key instruments guiding sustainable health financing.
Calling for closer collaboration between Finance and Health Ministries, Hon. Prof. Mthuli Ncube urged that health priorities be reflected in fiscal decisions, commitments translated into budget allocations, and budgets converted into quality service delivery, moving from dialogue to decisions and from budgets to tangible results for citizens.
The roundtable also marked the launch of the policy document, Accelerating Access to Essential Postpartum Haemorrhage Interventions, reaffirming the region’s commitment to strengthening maternal health and expanding access to lifesaving interventions. The launch underscored the collective resolve to translate policy into action and accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage and improved health outcomes across Africa.

Zimbabwe has taken a significant step towards establishing itself as an international financial hub following the licensing of the first group of firms under the Victoria Falls International Financial Services Centre (VFIFC).
The Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Hon. Prof. Mthuli Ncube, officiated as Guest of Honour at the ceremony and handed over licences to 38 companies, describing the development as a key milestone in the country's financial sector reform agenda.
A total of 38 institutions were licensed across various categories, including securities trading, asset management, custodial services and financial advisory. These firms are expected to anchor the development of a fully fledged financial ecosystem capable of integrating Zimbabwe into global financial markets.
The licensing marks the operationalisation of the VFIFC, a Government initiative aimed at attracting global capital, strengthening the investment climate and positioning Victoria Falls as a competitive international financial services jurisdiction.
The initiative forms part of broader economic reforms being implemented under the Second Republic, which are focused on improving the ease of doing business and driving private sector-led growth.
Government expects the VFIFC to contribute to the attainment of Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) by mobilising international investment, deepening the financial sector and creating high-value jobs.
Authorities also underscored the importance of strong governance and transparency among the licensed entities, noting that their performance will be critical in shaping the credibility and global reputation of the financial centre.
The VFIFC is widely regarded as a strategic platform for accelerating economic transformation and positioning Zimbabwe as a competitive destination for international financial services
