My favourite scene of the movie - Barbie tells an older woman she's beautiful. Older woman replies: I know.

💖 Greta Gerwig: 'The idea of [...] a mother, a grandmother – who looks at you and says, "Honey, you’re doing OK" – is something I feel like I need and I wanted to give to other people.'

This is important, because it means all our nannies have proper employment rights. That means sick pay, maternity and paternity protections, unfair dismissal, pension rights - all of that. It also means everyone pays tax correctly
👉 Easier ways for families to spend their tax-free childcare allowance - it's currently a massive administrative faff and how it can be spent on is too limited e.g. not possible to pay most in-home childcarers so no good for those whose work pattern requires more flexibility.
👉 More childcare funding for those eligible for universal credit - this looks like a definite and is so needed...but, again, will there be enough early years/ childcare to meet demand?
👉 Extending 30 hours free childcare to include 1 and 2 year olds - but with a package of support so childcarers and childcare settings can meet the demand. I'm worried this is going to be like the help to buy scheme, which drove up house prices as demand soared.
I want to see...
👉 30 hours free childcare at a rate that means providers can afford to run and pay childcare workers fairly (the current rates lead to nurseries effectively subsidising places for 3 and 4 year olds by charging more to 1 and 2 year olds).
